County Division One Appeals Upheld

Helston & Goldsithney Cricket Clubs have won their respective appeals regarding the playing of Justin Stephens by Penzance CC earlier in the season. Following complaints from the two clubs the League's Disciplinary Committee ruled that Stephens had not been released from his contract by St Just when he appeared for Penzance. The breach in registration rules resulted in the statutory maximum penalty for the offence of a fine of £100 on the club and deduction of the 29 points 'unfairly gained' in the two games. The Cornwall Cricket Board's Appeal's Committee have now upheld the appeals and, in accordance with the league rules, additionally awarded the full twenty match points to Helston and Goldsithney respectively.

As a result in addition to their points already gained in the Penzance matches Helston now receive an additional 11 points to take their total to 302, three points behind leaders Camborne, having played a game more. Goldsithney have gained an additional 17 points to take their total to 136 points, eight points ahead St Minver who replace them at the bottom of the table but have a game in hand . Last Saturday in the game between Tideford II and Newquay III (Div 4E) teenager Vaughan Roberts hit the first five balls of an over for six. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the bowler) the final ball was speared down legside and missed. Nevertheless 30 off an over is quite a feat. Roberts went on to miss out on a century by one run. Has it been bettered?
