Camborne C C 's Director of Cricket Resigns

December 2004

Camborne Cricket Club's Director of Cricket Paul Berryman has announced his resignation. The club won promotion to the Jolly's Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier in 2004 after clinching the County Division 1 title.

Berryman, who was in position for twelve months, has made the following formal announcement to the media:

"To end rumours and speculation, I would like to make the following announcement:

Due to work commitments, I have had to resign as the Director of Cricket at Camborne Cricket Club. Over the last few months, my workload has changed considerably, resulting in trips all over the country. What with playing as well, something has had to give. As a result, unfortunately, I will no longer be able to carry out my role as Director of Cricket.

There have been a lot of rumours going around that I have either fallen out with the Chairman, Mark Richards or that because of my personal views on the Premier League format that I am on a type of crusade! Well I can put an end to the gossip and myth, and probably disappoint some people by saying that this is simply not the case. I just don’t have time.

I believe, that with all the work put in over the last 12 months, that the Club is in a position where the post is no longer such a necessity. Players who joined us last year will still be with us, and Malcolm Pooley and I have already looked to add to the squad to hopefully challenge the top sides in the Premier League. Winter training will begin at the end of January, and the lads are already raring to go.

The Club has gone from strength to strength over the last few months, especially in the Clubhouse with Chris and Shirley Allen running the bar. We are getting more people in the bar during these winter months than we did in the summer, so God knows what next summer will be like if we carry on at this rate! There is entertainment every week, and the pool and dart league on a Friday night is bouncing. What with Christmas and New Years Eve coming up, I am sure the Club will be packed to the rafters".

Regards

Paul Berryman
