Cornwall Cricket Development Manager Joe Skinner (2006- ) Contact details (new June 2007)
Joe Skinner from Gloucestershire has been appointed to the post of Cornwall Cricket Development Manager, succeeding Tim Marrion who resigned the post in October 2006 to take up an appointment with Chance to Shine as the Midlands Regional Manager. Joe brings with him a wealth of experience in developing cricket, with over 10 years of development experience from coaching and managing County Youth teams to coordinating PESCCL programmes, maintaining KPI’s, organising and running Kwik cricket festivals and Disability festivals. He is currently employed by Active Gloucestershire as a Community Coach where he has been responsible for the delivery of county development plans in schools, primary and secondary and special schools. He is a Level 3 – Staff Coach, Tutor trained and is experienced in delivering UKCC1 and UKCC2 coach education courses as well as teacher training courses. He has managed and coached Gloucestershire Under 11’s from 1996 and managed Gloucestershire Senior Women in 2006. He has a degree in Sports & Exercise Sciences. Joe will begin in his post on the 14th December but will use the time before Christmas getting to know the area and finding his way around our County. Tim Marrion (2002-2006)
Tim Marrion took up the post of Cricket Development Officer for Cornwall replacing Peter Grant who retired in May 2002 after over five years in the post. Tim moved to the County from the Nottinghamshire area. After having qualified with an Advanced GNVQ in Leisure & Tourism, an HND in Leisure Management and graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Recreation Management he has been employed for the last eighteen months by Nottinghamshire City Council. After holding the post of a Sports and Recreation Officer he was promoted to the position of Community Sports Development Officer last June. In this post he has achieved success in an area of high deprivation gaining funding and establishing three new sports clubs. He has been an active member of the Nottingham City Active Sports Group which in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club has worked on club development and on the National structure of the game through to a local level. Tim Marrion has a "passion for cricket both playing, developing and coaching". He played for the Nottinghamshire County Youth Teams from Under 11 to Under 19 level and captained the Under 19's for two seasons. He is a qualified ECB level 2 Coach and has been playing in the Nottinghamshire Premier League.
Peter Grant (1997-2002)
Retiring Cornwall Cricket Development Officer Peter Grant receives a presentation from Cornwall Cricket Board Chairman Col. Ronnie Potts. The presentation was made at a special surprise evening arranged by the Cricket Board to thank Peter for over five years service as the County's first full time Cricket Development Officer. In addition to all members of the Board leading officials from the five organisations that make up the Cornwall Board were present. The gathering uniquely brought together the leading twenty or so officials in Cornish Cricket to pay tribute to the efforts of Peter who attended the function with wife Kath. In thanking him Col. Potts doubted whether any successsor could match the enthusiasm of Peter over the years which have seen major improvements to the development of the game in the County at grass roots. Those present included Board members Col. Ron Potts (Chairman), John Harbinson (vice-chairman), Mike Harland (Secretary), Malcolm Broad M.B.E. (Treasurer), Jan Vatcha, (League), Doug Nance (County Club), Les Driver and Brian Harrison (Schools), Nigel Sanders (Coaches), Steve Jarman (Youth), Michael Weeks (Press/Yearbook/Website). Also attending were from the various organisations were : County Club: Former Secretary. Father Ken Rogers, Former Team Manager and County Captain Brian Laity, Under 19/17 Manager Tim Hyslop Cornwall League: Vice Chairman Bruce Nicholls, former Chairman and Life Member Keith Davis, Umpires Association Secretary John Ford. Cornwall Schools Cricket Association Chairman Tony Pollard and Treasurer Terry Barker Coaches Association President and Life Member Mike Buzza, Treasuer Ian Pemberton and Level 3 Coach and former Glamorgan player Martin Roberts and from the newly formed Youth Management Group Secretary Nik Lewis. Peter officially retired from his post on 30th April and his replacement is expected to be named by the end of May.
