Cornwall Cricket Board Child Welfare

1. All clubs need to have at a minimum one certificated (attended the Good Practice and Child Protection course) Club Welfare Officer and to be accredited and achieve ClubMark they will need two Club Welfare Officers.

2. All clubs must adopt the ECB 'Safe Hands - Welfare of Young People in Cricket' policy and include in Constitution.

3. All official Coaches, Umpires and Scorers must have completed a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check.

4. All Umpires, Scorers in all cricket who carry out the duty on regular occasions must have completed a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check.

5. All club officials who have regular access to children and have not carried out a Criminal Records Bureau check need to complete a Self Declaration form. This form is returned to and kept by the Club Welfare Officer. .

6. All club members under the age of 18 need parental consent for being photographed, videoed, changing in changing rooms with over 18's and being transported to home and away games.

7. All Club Welfare Officers need to attend the NSPCC 'Time to Listen' course when it becomes available.

Club Welfare Officer's Role 

The officer must attend a 3 hour Sports Coach UK 'Good Practice Child Protection' workshop (dates) and then, once it comes on line, another 3 hour NSPCC 'Time to Listen' workshop.

This NSPCC workshop will train in the role requirements and responbilities of being a Club Welfare Officer.

The Club WelfareOfficer's role will be:

1. First contact in club for all members regarding any child welfare issues.

2. 'It is the responsibility of the Club Welfare Officer to pass on any Child Protection/Welfare concerns to the County Welfare Officer (Graham Neve). The County Welfare Officer will therefore be accountable/responsible for any further actions and would investigate as appropriate following Local Authority Child Protection Guidelines and the ECB Welfare of Young People in Cricket policy'

3. To be CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checked and complete for all coaches, managers, umpire and scorers in the club.

4. To ensure the ECB 'Safe Hands' Welfare of Young People In Cricket Policy is adopted by the club.

Child Welfare - The Process:

o Report all concerns at a club to Club Welfare Officer who completes a Welfare Incident Form.

o Club Welfare Officer reports to County Welfare Officer.

o County Welfare Officer will handle situation.

If at any time anyone is in danger or been hurt any one can contact the police or social services.

1. Every coach, umpire, scorer, captain and person with regular contact with children needs to complete a CRB check.

2. Officials of your club needs to complete a Self-Declaration form.

3. Complete a Parental consent form for all minors under the age of 18.

4. Adopt the ECB 'Safe Hands' Welfare of Young People in Cricket Policy.

5. Send your Club Welfare Officer on 'Safe Hands' Time to Listen training.

New 'Safe Hands' Folders The Cornwall Cricket Board has just taken possession of the New 'Safe Hands' folder. The folder that your club has is now out of date and has been superseded by this new folder. It is recommended that all clubs purchase this new folder so they remain up to date with the ECB 'Safe Hands' policy for which all clubs have adopted. This folder can by bought from the Cornwall Cricket Board for £10.00. If clubs would like to buy a folder please send a cheque made payable to the Cornwall Cricket Board for £10.00. Please highlight who you would like the folder to be sent to in a covering letter.
