Cornwall Minor County Averages 2001 Highlights of Cornwall's Minor Counties Championship campaign in 2001 was the performances of the opening bowling pair of Justin Stephens and Charlie Shreck who took 59 wickets between them. Stephens had the excellent return of 32 wickets in the six Championship matches at 14.43 apiece while Shreck took 27 wickets at almost 30 apiece. Leading runscorer was Tom Sharp with 298 runs including the season's highest score of 90 made in the first innings at Bridgnorth against Shropshire. The County had a mixed season to finish 7th of 10 in the Western Division. The highlight was the 95 run win at Wiltshire where Stephens took 6 wickets in each innings.. There was a fighting draw at Shropshire in a game which went the full three days while at Truro against Oxfordshire rain denied what looked like a good chance of victory. Dorset had the best of a drawn game at St. Austell. There was a disappointing defeat in a day and a half against Berkshire at Penzance while the final game at Exmouth at Devon saw a 10 wicket defeatin a rain affected game In one-day matches in the 38 Counties the match at Falmouth against Somerset CB was ruined by rain while there was the narrowest of defeats by 1 wicket at Camborne against Gloucestershire CB. The away games against Wiltshire and Devon saw convincing defeats. The Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy provided some of the most memorable performances of the year. The thrilling 3 wicket win at Camborne against Cheshire in May led to the 3rd Rd tie with Sussex at Truro, which saw the Duchy compete well to lose by just 33 runs to the First Class County. There is the prospect of another memorable day in 2002 with the visit of Worcestershire to the County on 29th May.
