The 2006 season gets underway at Taunton

As expected Somerset comfortably won this pre-season game by seven wickets, with 16 overs to spare, but not before overcoming a bad start which saw them lose 2 wickets in the first seven balls of the innings. Chasing Cornwall's 176-7 Nick George clean bowled skipper Matt Wood first ball then Rob Harrison also claimed a first ball victim bowling James Hildreth for 7. Wes Durston with 55 added 96 for the third wicket with John Francis (66no) before Carl Gazzard made 38 not out to seal the victory.

Earlier, having been put in under grey skies, Cornwall struggled to 47-5 in the 25th over thanks to tight spells from Andy Caddick and Charl Willoughby. Karl Turner, batting at 3, held the innings together with an unbeaten 55. Over the second half of the innings he added 46 with Jon Kent (21) and 77 with Chris Hunkin, who hit 50 off 42 balls, to boost the Cornwall total to a respectable 176-7.

Cornwall play Cornwall Under 21's at Truro on Sunday 23rd April (1pm) before taking on Devon at Falmouth in the MCCA Trophy on Sunday 30th April at 11am.
