Cornwall v Somerset 20/20 Match at Boscawen Park, Truro The Dean Dyball Challenge Match on Tuesday 26th August 2008 at 3pm Cornwall's Dean & Dyball 20/20 game with Somerset C C C at Truro ended in a thrilling tie. A superb effort by the Cornish team was capped when Rob Harrison hit Mark Turner's last ball for six in a dramatic finish. This was after 13 had been needed off the last over. Needing a daunting 153 Gary Thomas and Matthew Rowe added 38 before Rowe was dismissed by Peter Trego for 19. Thomas hit a six and 3 fours in his 42 before falling to Arul Suppiah. After former Somerset player Keith Parsons departed for 8 Tom Sharp continued the good work hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours in his 55 not out made off 37 balls. Ironically it was Cornishman Carl Gazzard that top scored for Somerset making 36 not out. Omari Banks made 33 and Arul Suppiah 26. Former England players Marcus Trescothick and Ian Blackwell made 16 and 5 respectively while James Hildreth was dismissed by Sharp for 0. Ben Smeeth took the bowling honours with four for 24 and Sharp took two for 14. Somerset won the toss and elected to bat. Somerset County Cricket club visit Cornwall next Tuesday (26th August) for their third Dean Dyball 20/20 challenge match against Cornwall County Cricket Club. The game takes place at Truro Cricket Club with a 3pm start. Dean Dyball are the builders of the new county ground at Taunton. This is the final year of a three year agreement with both Cornwall and Devon playing matches to raise funds for their youth cricket. By the end of the programme Somerset will have raised £10,000 for youth cricket in each county by playing these matches. The games have been organised by former Somerset Chief Executive Peter Anderson and the game at Truro marks the end of his official roles after a 20 year association with Somerset. The match will also be a benefit game for former England batsman Marcus Trescothick who, as last year, is expected to be in attendance. Somerset have named a strong team that includes Marcus Trescothick as captain. Cornishmen Carl Gazzard and Michael Munday are also included along with former England players Andy Caddick and Ian Blackwell.
