Minor Counties Championship

Herefordshire v Cornwall

at Brockhampton

on Sunday 21 June at 11am

Cornwall play their second Minor Counties Championship game of the season when they travel to Brockhampton to take on Herefordshire. The game will provide a memorable milestone for St Just's Gary Thomas. He is set to join the illustrious set of nine players who have played one hundred championship games for the County. Thomas made his debut in against Dorset at St Austell in 1992 . He scored a record fourteenth century at Falmouth last time out and in doing so passed former opening partner Steve Williams to become the fourth highest runscorer in Cornwall's history.

Last season's clash with Herefordshire succumbed to the weather at St Austell with a wash out over the first two days. A one day game was hastily rearranged at Truro which Cornwall were dismissed for 114 and Herefordshire went on to win by seven wickets. Their first championship win for almost three years.

In the opening round of games a fortnight ago Dorset were the only winners in the western division with their win over Oxfordshire. Cornwall and Herefordshire had contrasting draws. Cornwall and Cheshire's game petered out after the second day at Falmouth was washed out. Herefordshire meanwhile were involved in a thriller with Shropshire at Eastnor. Herefordshire's last pair were at the crease, and just eight runs short of victory, when the overs ran out.

Cornwall make one change from the side that played Cheshire at Falmouth. Somerset leg spinner Michael Munday comes into the team for the unavailable Matthew Rowe. It will only be Munday's third appearance in the last five seasons. He featured in one game last year taking three wickets in the win over Shropshire at Truro. Herefordshire make just one change to the side that drew with Shropshire at Eastnor a fortnight ago with Huw Jones coming in for David Exall. Four of the team will be playing on their home club ground including the skipper Chris Boroughs.
