The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League is set for a major change this year. The Annual Meeting, held at County Hall, Truro, voted to end the re-arrangement of all League games called off due to bad weather. The long standing practice has been the subject of annual debate for decades . The decision, plus the election of a new League President - Mr Mike Buzza, provided a couple of notable milestones at the League's Centenary AGM.

The rearrangement issue was decided following a ballot which resulted 71 to 61 votes in favour of change. Clubs with only one team were entitled to one vote while all others had two votes. There was a high turn out of 95% of the League's 78 clubs. A subsequent breakdown of individual clubs voting has confirmed the decision as overall 40 clubs were in favour of non-rearrangement, 34 clubs against and 4 clubs were absent. With Sundays now freed up the introduction of Sunday Cup competitions, based initially on regional groups, were also agreed. There will be two separate competitions for Divisions 1 & 2 and Divisions 3 and below. However, clubs will not be obligated to enter.

Other main points decided included the introduction of a split Premier League format for 2005 by a majority of 7-3. The third match between clubs in the top division will now be a 50 overs straight win or lose game, sanctioned by the ECB. All other playing conditions remain as the present 'time' games. These 50 over games will be played at the beginning and end of the season, on the three Bank Holiday Mondays and two Sundays in June and July. The other 18, home and away, Saturday games remain the statutory ECB 110 over 'time' format with draws an option. All results will form a single league table.

Other changes in 2005 will see fielding circles introduced for the first time in County Division 1 and the later stages of the Vinter, Hawkey & Edwards Evening Knock Out Cup competitions. Professionals may in future only be contracted for a single season at a time, Cornwall League matches in September will start at 1.30pm instead of 2pm and the League Rules have been revamped and renumbered. As a result they will be published in a much clearer format.

Proposals that failed to find favour included a reduction from 48 to 40 overs in lower division games, transfer forms being applicable during the close season and County Division 1 clubs again rejected the adoption of a minimum over rate of 17 per hour, albeit on a tied vote.

One of the most respected persons in local cricket, Mr Mike Buzza was elected as the tenth League President in succession to Col. Ronnie Potts. Col. Potts resigned the position last year for personal reasons, having held the post since 1987. Mike Buzza's playing career with Truro C.C. spanned over thirty years and included eight Cornwall Caps. He is presently an elected County Club Committee member. His career took him out of the County but he returned in 1970 and was instrumental in setting up the first Coaching Courses in the County. He rose to the level of Staff Coach. A Cornwall Coaches Association was eventually formed. He became chairman and was elected its President in 2000. He was also a leading committee member of the Cornwall Cricket Association and then, after the formation of the Cornwall Cricket Board, served as a Board member. He was also a member of the League's Western Sectional Committee before becoming a League umpire for a number of years.

The President presented the Archie Smith Trophy for the outstanding Under 19 player to Antony Angove (Falmouth). Alex Tunnadine of Menheniot won the Clive Osborne Trophy for the outstanding young eastern bowler. Truro won the Bradley Trophy for leading batting average in the Premier League with Falmouth taking the Littlejohns Trophy for the Bowling Award. The Div 4 & below batting trophy went to Shane Reid of Gerrans for the highest average of 102.9 while St Newlyn East's John Presswell won the bowling trophy for the lowest average of 36 wkts @ 5.14.

The other main officers were all re-elected unopposed: Chairman CB Nicholls, vice-chairman PR Osborne, Honorary Secretary M. Evans, Asst. Secretary K. Goldsmith, Honorary Treasurer J. Spry, Asst. Treasurer P. Moores.
