Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League Averages 2003 Leading Premier League Batting & Bowling Averages
Wayne Vincent and Justin Stephens In their last season as an ECB Cornwall Premier League club St Buryan provided the top batsman in the 2003 season averages. Wayne Vincent averaged 59.08 having scored 709 runs from 16 innings with 4 not outs. The leading runscorer was St Just's Gary Thomas who passed the thousand mark for the first time. Justin Stephens topped the bowling averages taking 46 wickets at 13.01 during the season at St Buryan before moving to St Just. Callington's Ian Bishop was the leading wicket taker with 54 wickets. Beacon's Karl Turner topped the County Division One batting averages with 907 runs at 75-58 while Werrington's Mark Horwell was the only batsman in the division to pass a thousand runs. Paul's Neil Pengelly topped the bowling averages with David Pascoe of Helston taking most wickets (40). There were some notable batting performances in the Western Section with Ian Goldsworthy of Praze breaking the League record with 1,587 runs at an average of 113.36. William Deerness of St Gluvias was close behind scoring 1,467 runs while Shane Reid of Gerrans had the amazing record league average of 173.20 having made 866 runs and only dismissed on 5 occasions. Leading wicket takers were Leedstown's Nick Verran with 51 and David Hocking who took 50 for Beacon Seconds. In the Eastern section Launceston's Andy Birkett helped his side to promotion with over 1200 runs while Lanhydrock's Dave Hollyoak also passed the thousand mark.
