The funeral service took place at Penmount Crematorium, Truro
on Tuesday 6th January 2004 at 9.30 am of Jan Vatcha, Chairman of the Cornwall
cricket League & Cornwall Umpires & Scorers Association.

Chapel was full to overflowing, with standing room only, for the service conducted
by his family- mother and younger sister & brother- who live in the home counties.
Tributes were made by Col. Ronnie Potts, Chairman of the Cornwall Cricket Board
and President of the Cornwall Cricket League and colleagues from the Cornwall
Umpires & Scorers Association , President John Ford & vice-chairman Reg
Osborne.
The congregation included a who's who of local cricket.
In addition to Col. Potts the County Club were represented by the Hon. Sec Mrs
Anita George, a number of Committee members and current players Jonathan Kent
and David Roberts.. Virtually the entire 20 man League Management Committee were
also present . Cornwall Cricket Board members Nigel Sanders and Les Driver represented
the coaches and Schools organisations. Former and current Cricket Development
officers Peter Grant and Tim Marrion also attended. There was a good represetation
from the Umpires & Scorers Association with many members present as well as
the Officers. There were many other familar figures from various clubs across
the County.
It was with sadness that the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall
Cricket League announced the sudden death at home , on the evening of the 29th
December 2003, of its Chairman Jan Vatcha (aged 60) who lived at Townshend near
Hayle. He took over the post in 2002 from Keith Davis having succeeded Syd Trembath
as League vice-chairman and Western Section Chairman in 1999. He also represented
the League on the Cornwall Cricket Board.
One of his last duties
was to attend a meeting of Premier League Chairmen at Lord's recently on behalf
of the Cornwall League.
He was also a leading figure in the Cornwall
Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association. He was an active committee member and after
rising to the post of vice-chairman he took over from Gerald Penberthy as Association
Chairman in 1998.
Following a playing career at Praze he had joined
the Association in 1986.
He stood regularly for fifteen years in
the top divisions until being forced to give up umpiring due to deteriorating
health.
He was a full member of the Association of Cricket Umpires
& Scorers and applied to gain election to the Minor Counties Panel over a number
of seasons
