Group Final 2nd July 2006 Taunton St Andrews 198-8 (A Grundy 65, K Sedgebeer 30, P Lawrence 27. M Jenkin 24; R Clackworthy 2-23, N George 2-34, G Thomas 2-50), St Just 199-3 (G May 81no, G Thomas 79no, D Roberts 34; M Parsons 2-51). St Just beat Taunton St Andrews by seven wickets with 4 overs to spare and are away to Frocester (Gloucestershire) in the last sixteen. St Just did well to have Taunton St Andrews struggling at 84-5 in the 26th over with former Somerset men Mike Burns and Kevin Parsons both dismissed cheaply by Nick George. The visitors were saved by Ashleigh Grundy who hit 65, and Kevin Sedgbeer with 30, as the pair added 87 over 16 overs for the sixth wicket. Needing 199 in 45 overs St Just lost Neil Curnow to the impressive Gareth Porter with only 1 on the board but David Roberts (34) took control striking seven glorious boundaries before falling to Mike Parsons. The Somerset quickie in his next over then had Gavin Edwards brilliantly caught at slip at 51-3. St Just though were carried to victory thanks to a fine stand between Gary Thomas (79 not out) and skipper Gareth May (81 not out) as they added an unbroken 148, in great fashion, to win the game with four overs to spare. Round 6 Sunday 16 July Frocester (Gloucestershire) 263-6 (N Trainor 125; M George 2-52), St Just 265-5 (G Thomas 78no, D Roke 49no, D Roberts 47, G May 32, N Curnow 27). St Just beat Frocester by five wickets with nine balls to spare and are at home to Ealing in the quarter-finals on Sunday 30th July. QF 30 July St Just v Ealing St Just are just one step from the Cockspur Cup Final at Lord's following a superb performance to defeat Ealing at Cape Cornwall Road. They will bid to become the first Cornish team to reach the National Club Final when they travel to Bromley in Kent on Sunday 13th August. Ealing recovered from 59-4 to make 226-9 in 45 overs. St Just lost David Roberts for 29 at 79-1 in the 13th over but Neil Curnow with a brilliant 119 not out including a six and 19 fours and Gary Thomas 68 not out steered them home with almost 5 overs to spare. Ealing 226-9 (D Holt 93 not out, S Hawk 40, P Wellings 35, I Manchett 30; G Thomas 4-53, G Trenwith 2-19), St Just 228-1 (N Curnow 119no, G Thomas 68 no, D Roberts 29). St Just beat Ealing by nine wickets and meet Bromley away in the semi-final.
SF 13 Aug Bromley v St Just - postponed to 20th August waterlogged ground St Just’s Cockspur Cup run came to an end when they lost their delayed semi-final at Bromley by 88 runs. St Just won the toss and after being put in Bromley lost an early wicket with Graham Trenwith striking in the second over. Nick George picked up a couple of wickets including former Surrey batsman Nadeem Shahid, caught in the deep for 55, at 76 for 3 off 15 overs. The home team fought back as Nicky Bluett (52) and James Watson took the total to 153 before Matthew Issacs blasted 59 not out. With Watson making an unbeaten 59 a hundred runs came off the last 12 overs for the fifth wicket to get the total up to 253-4 off 45 overs. Nick George took 2 for 47. The innings was interrupted due to rain with a further heavy shower at teatime. David Roberts and Neil Curnow put on 43 before Curnow was given out lbw for 23. Gary Thomas went for 0 but with skipper Gareth May making 19 St Just reached 133 for 4 before losing four wickets in consecutive overs. Roberts was then ninth out for 82 and the end came soon after at 165 all out with six overs remaining. Issacs took 3 for 26. Paul beat Sully Centurions by 10 runs with 2 balls remaining and are away to Marshfield (Gloucestershire) in the last sixteen.
7th Round (Last sixteen) 16th July Paul 249-4 (K Snell 76, N Pengelly 52no, C James 40, A Snell 37, extras 37; J Williams 2-41, M Jackson 2-59), Marshfield (Gloucestershire) 180 (R Crockett 80no, D Watson 20; M Osborne 4-54, A Hosking 2-21, K Snell 2-35, N Pengelly 2-36). Paul beat Marshfield by 69 runs and will be away to Oxford Downs (Oxfordshire) or Timsbury (Somerset & Avon) in the quarter-finals on Sunday 30th July.
8th Round (Quarter Finals) 30th July Paul's hopes of reaching the npower Village cup final were ended at Timsbury in North Somerset when they lost by four wickets. After making a modest 152 all out with Martin Prodger making 34 and Cas James 31 the game looked well poised when the home team were 61 for 4 in the 21st over before a heavy downpour. On the resumption runs came quickly and the home team eventually got home with over 2 overs to spare. Npower Village Cup Quarter Final Paul 152 (M Prodger 34, C James 31; M Sage 3-13), Timsbury 153-6 (D Wilkins 32no, J Thomas 25; K Snell 3-36, M Osborne 2-43). Timsbury beat Paul by four wickets.
