Veryan beat Saltash by four wickets off the penultimate ball.
Veryan won the Clive Rosevear Cup at Roche Cricket Club on Sunday after narrowly beating Saltash by four wickets off the penultimate ball of a well contested final. The finals day, which had been postponed three times, saw Veryan defeat Roche and Saltash beat Boconnoc in the semi finals. Roche made 130 for eight, which included a plus 20 run handicap, with Andrew Tregunna taking four for 17. Veryan knocked off the runs in the 19th over with Gary Wheildon making 65 not out. In the second semi-final Boconnoc hit 112 for nine with Mike Hodge taking three for 24. Saltash reached their target in the 18th over with Sam Hunt making 42 and Nick Carpenter 25 in a second wicket partnership. In the final, under increasingly grey skies, Saltash got off to a fine start with Carpenter (52) and Ross Braund (32) adding 94 for the first wicket. Hunt was run out for 44 as the big total of 159 for six was posted. Andrew Tregunna took three for 21. Veryan also got off to a fine start as Carlos Howard hit four sixes in his 40 and Gary Wheildon made 57. The pair put on 88 for the first wicket. Saltash fought back and it was left to Tregunna to steer his side home with 28 not out after seven had been needed off the last over. After losing skipper Matt Dixon for 8 Tregunna hit a boundary through mid wicket to tie the scores and then repeated the shot off the fifth ball. Gary Wheildon was named man of the match.
