FALMOUTH
win through to Regional Indoor Cricket Finals on
Sunday 22nd February 2004 Falmouth CC has progressed
to the Regional Finals of the ECB Indoor six-a-side cricket competition following
a convincing 5 wickets victory over Torquay CC. Batting first, at the Derriford
Sports Centre, Plymouth, the Devon side found runs difficult to score against
some tight, accurate Falmouth bowling and well supported fielding. Two run outs
and the loss of a further wicket in Larry Martin's second over did not help their
cause and despite a few lofty hits by their last batsman, Torquay were dismissed
for a mere 66. Larry Martin and Mark Burley confidently
set about their task, running well between the wickets and putting on over fifty
for the first wicket before both retired on reaching their mandatory 25 runs.
With the scores level, young Anthony Angove was caught, but a bye of the next
ball gave Falmouth a somewhat easy victory. The Group
3 Regional Finals will take place on Sunday 29th February at Writhlington School
Near Bath Start for Cornwall (Falmouth) 11.45am . Our best wishes go with
Falmouth and should their success continue, the National Finals will be held at
the M.C.C. Indoor School, Lord's Cricket Ground on Sunday, 14th March 2004 commencing
at 12.00noon. Scores: Torquay 66 (B Hood 19; J Yau

defeated Grampound Road by 2 wickets at Fowey Leisure Centre to become Cornwall
Indoor 6-a-side cricket champions and represent the county at the next stage of
this national competition. The early dismissal of Chris
Hunkin, in the first over of the match, was a big blow for the East Cornwall side.
However, Adam Brenton and Martin Pearce proceeded to bat steadily, putting on
55 before having to retire. Grampound Road were unable to build on this foundation
nor accelerate the scoring sufficiently in the latter stages of the innings. Young
Anthony Angove with 4 for 19 finished off the opposition with a last over hat-trick,
including two stumpings by Mark Burley. Although, also losing
an early wicket, the Falmouth batsmen maintained a necessary scoring rate through
confident running between the wickets. Skipper Larry Martin with an undefeated
32 and Anthony Angove (22no) saw their team home with 8 balls to spare and a trip
to Derriford Sports Centre, Plymouth, next Sunday (22nd Feb), to play the Devon
winners. County Final Scores: Grampound
