The award for the outstanding young cricketer in the Cornwall Schools'
Cricket Association for 2002 was won by 12 year old Matt Robins of Saltash
School. During the year Matt hit the second highest schools' score on
record of 187 against the Netherlands at King's College, Taunton. In that
game he also shared a record partnership for any age group, and any wicket,
of 285 with Jack Brighouse of Truro School. Both received a special momento
given by King's College to mark their achievement.
The presentations were made at the Annual Awards evening at Perranporth
by the Guest of Honour, the Somerset and former Middlesex all rounder
Keith Dutch. There was also a special presentation for retiring President
of the Association Jonathan Harris. It was was presented by the Patron,
The Rt. Hon The Viscount Falmouth, for his eight years of support to the
CSCA.
The strongest team of the year were the Under 13's who should have won
both the Western Division of the County Championship and the Taunton Festival,
which they led going into the last day.
