Match reports -Tuesday 15th Feb - Sat 19th Feb
On Tuesday 15th the team played St Stithians 1st XI. Saints
batted first and scored 218 - 4 as the Cornwall boys toiled in over 30
degrees of heat. In reply Cornwall lost regular wickets until Jordan Marsden
(46) and Matthew Adams (37 n.o.) saved the day with an impressive partnership.
Cornwall closed on 161 - 8, securing a losing draw.
On Wednesday 16th the team played a day / night game against Saints.
This was the first time the Cornwall boys had ever played under lights,
in a coloured one day kit kindly provided by Western Power Distribution
and Surf Telecoms. Saints batted first scoring 303 in their 40 overs.
Jordan Marsden took 3-51. In reply Cornwall scored 220 with Captain Matthew
Manuell scoring 59. The Cornwall team was hampered by 3 run outs.
On Friday 18th Feb the Boys played St Peters and once again
lost the toss and struggled in the heat of the day. St Peters amassed
an impressive 274 all out in 45 overs, Charlie Neill-Hall taking 3-49
and Jack Thomas 2-30. Cornwall was never up with the run rate due to some
fine bowling and excellent fielding by St Peters. Charlie Neill-Hall scored
38 and Taylor Williams scored 32. Cornwall closed on 168-6 in 50 overs
to secure a 2nd losing draw.
On Saturday 19th Feb the boys played a SOWETO development
11 in a 25 over game. SOWETO batted first and scored 126 - 5. Mathew Adams
took 2-20 off 5 overs. In reply Cornwall started a little slowly and lost
2 wickets in the first 6 overs, at this stage there were only 15 runs
on the scoreboard. The team suffered a middle order collapse finishing
103 all out despite a valiant battle by Craig Williams (35).
On Sunday 20th Feb the boys and supporters flew from Jo`burg to
Cape Town, leaving Jo`burg in heavy rain and some thunder and lightning.
In contrast, Cape Town was slightly cooler only in the late twenties.
The scenery is breath taking and beautiful.
On Monday 21st the team have driven 50 km into the mountains to
play Somerset College at the Taberer Bowl. The setting is outstanding
and the pitch is as hard as concrete following a drought. We had all hoped
for lower temperatures, but, it is 35 degrees "C" in intense sun.
