Premier League fixtures increased The Jolly's Drinks ECB Cornwall Premier League clubs will play an additional four league games this season. Clubs voted at the AGM in January to reduce their season from 27 to 18 games but there was indecision in setting up an additional competition to compensate for the loss of so much cricket. With the general consensus being that 18 were too few games and 27 too many the League Management Committee decided to canvass clubs with the idea of playing only four clubs on a third occasion during the season. The 22 game season will use up the spare Saturdays (17 May & 30 August) and Bank Holiday Mondays (5 & 26 May) and run in conjunction with the rest of the League's programme, who have twelve team divisions as opposed to the 10 team premier as laid down by the ECB. The proposed list of extra fixtures have been circulated to clubs and a subsequent ballot has resulted in a seven to three clubs majority in favour of playing the extra games.. The extra fixtures were produced on a 'pot luck' basis. They were pre-determined, being the fixtures that would have been played on the set days if the 27 game format remained. Clubs would have played the other five teams on Sundays and a Saturday in September. The complex interlinking matrix also ensures that club's premier home fixtures don't clash with their 2nd XI home games, despite divisions being of 10 and 12 teams respectively. Cornwall League Divisions 2003 The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League have announced the make up of the divisions for the 2003 season. The confirmation has been delayed due to uncertainty regarding the continued participation of some teams, which has now been resolved. In the County Divisions Newquay replace Camborne in the ECB Cornwall Premier League while St Minver and Rosudgeon gain promotion to County Division 1 at the expense of Launceston and St Ives. In the Western Section Divisions 2 to 5 see the usual two up and two down. However in Division 6 Camborne III and St Day II were automatically relegated for failing to raise a team on three or more occasions. As Falmouth IV were unable to be promoted, as the League Rules don't permit a club to have more than one team in the same division, third placed Porthleven II go up instead. As last season Division 7 will have ten teams and Division 8 eight teams. The Eastern Section has proved far more complicated. Trevone withdrew from Division 2 during the season so only Boconnoc are relegated. In Division 3 with only one team coming down plus the withdrawal of Colan and St Stephen's failure to raise teams means no relegations and promotion for third placed Bugle. Likewise in Division 4 with no relegations and the decision of St Stephen to voluntarily drop down to Division 7, and effectively take over their 2nd XI fixtures, third placed Tregony are also promoted. Similarly in Division 5 with three vacancies there are no relegations and third placed Duloe go up. In Division 6 the withdrawals during the year of Launceston III, Trevone II, St Stephen II and relegation of Saltash II for failing to raise teams have resulted in six vacancies. St Neot II, Werrington IV, Callington IV and St Austell IV are additionally promoted. Division 7 have seen applications by Veryan II and Trevone, to be re-elected in the lowest division, accepted by the League. Also accepted is the provisional return of RAF St Mawgan, subject to their ground and facility arrangements being acceptable to the League early in the New Year.
Cornwall County Cricket Club have announced fixture details for the ECB 38 County Under 21 competition for next season. The one-day 50 over per side tournament was previously competed for by the full County XI but re-organisation will now see the competition being played by Under 21 teams with two over-aged players allowed. This replaces the ECB Under 19 County Championship. Cornwall face a tough prospect having to play Somerset home and away plus have other group games against Dorset and Devon. Group 1 Cornwall fixtures:- Thursday 3rd July - Somerset at Clevedon; Tuesday 8th July - Dorset at Dorchester; Tuesday 22nd July - Devon at Truro; Thursday 7th August - Somerset at St Austell. Quarter Finals - 14th August, Semi-finals - 20th August, Final - 10th September. The Cornwall team will be managed by Dick Collins who has previously assisted Tim Hyslop at Under 19 and Under 17 levels. The Under 19's last year narrowly failed to win their group when they drew a high scoring decider against Devon at Seaton in the ECB Under 19 two-day County Championship | |||||||||||||||||||||
