Devon v Cornwall Sixes Play-off 25 February

Cornish indoor champions Werrington travelled to the Ashmoor Centre, Ashburton on Sunday to play Devon champions Cornwood. After losing the toss and being asked to bowl Werrington quickly came to terms with the conditions and Cornwood opener, A Walker was run out without facing a ball. Four more run outs followed plus one wicket falling to part time off-spinner "Mini" Robins, which restricted Cornwood to a very gettable 106 all out. B Warren was the only Cornwood batsman to retire (35). The Smeeth brothers, Ben and Alex, were the pick of the Werrington bowlers only going for 31 in their 5 overs combined. Werrington made light work of their run chase with both openers retiring. Rob May made a quick fire 26 and Mark Horwell retired on 29 to leave the tail a simple task of scoring less than 40 from the last 6 overs. After Mark Hodgson was caught "hooking" a ball that should have been left well alone tail-ender Alex Smeeth brought up the winning runs with a brisk 15 not out from 5 balls. This left Werrington comfortable winners by 4 wickets with over 2 overs to spare. The young Werrington side now travel to the County ground at Taunton to play the regional finals on Sunday 4 March at 3:00pm. They are now only two games away from a trip to Lords, the home of cricket.

Cornwood 106 all out: M Cooksley 22, B Warren 35, M Robins 1 - 34, A Smeeth 0 - 15, B Smeeth 0 - 16, R May 0 - 39.
