Falmouth Women's Annual Cricket Festival will be held on Sunday 31st July 2005 at the Falmouth Ground, Trescobeas Road starting at 11.00 am with the final being at approximately 6.00 pm. This year we have a good entry of 10 teams from all over Cornwall. Each side will consist of 6 players with 5 overs per innings. Free Hits and double scoring opportunities are up for grabs. There will be a BBQ running and a bar with snacks and ice creams available all day. Come and support the Ladies, either with a view to playing in the future or just to enjoy the day out at t

W T Edwards Cup Final

Werrington won the W T Edwards Cup for the first time when they defeated St Just at Truro by eight wickets with seven balls to spare. They were indebted to a superb unbroken partnership of 64 in just seven overs between the Hodgson brothers, Mark and Adam. Mark made 41 and Adam , who was named man of the match, 34. They came together in the 12th over with Werrington 53-2 after Mark Horwell had been bowled by Haydn Spierling for 3 and Ben Smeeth stumped off Gary Thomas for 23.

Earlier after electing to bat St Just lost the wicket of Neil Curnow caught at cover off Adrian Pooley for 10 in the third over. Pooley was replaced by Darren Johns who in his first over cleaned bowled Gary Thomas for 2. Jason Hall and Gareth May added 48 before Hall was brilliantly caught by a running Adam Hodgson in the deep for 26. May followed next over for 32 bowled by Worsnip. Nigel Smitheram and Nick George were run out but Darren Cudby made a useful unbeaten 20 off 14 balls as St Just reached 117 for 7. Johns took 2 for 26 and Ben Smeeth bowled 5 economic overs for 19 runs.

St Just 117-7 (G May 32, J Hall 26, D Cudby 20 no; D Johns 2-26), Werrington 118-2 (M Hodgson 41no, A Hodgson 34no, B Smeeth 23). Werrington beat St Just by 8 wkts with 7 balls to spare.

After the latest round of games Cornwall have moved up to 5th and are 13 points behind the joint leaders Cheshire and Berkshire with two games to go. In the latest games Cornwall beat Herefordshire by an innings and 85 runs, Cheshire beat Wiltshire by 9 wickets, Shropshire beat Devon by 8 wickets and Berkshire drew with Oxfordshire.

Paul Cricket Club’s npower seventh round National village game with Carew on Sunday has been brought forward to 1.30pm to allow the Welsh side time for their flight connection from Newquay Airport on Sunday evening

Gulval won last night's Runciman Cup semi final against Penzance by 51 runs and now play St Levan in the Final on Monday 18th July at Penzance at 6pm. Semi Finals St Levan 78-1 v Goldsithney 77 and Gulval 125-8 v Penzance 74

 

In last night's Clive Rosevear Centenary Handicap Cup Quarter Finals - St Gluvias caused a surprise to win at St Just by 9 wickets. Elsewhere Beacon beat Wendron by 9 wickets after being set 115 to win and Werrington defeated Luckett by 65 runs after scoring 166 for 7.. Gorran and Newquay tied but Newquay won through by losing one less wicket.

Wendron 70 (+40) 114-9 (M Mitchell 22; K Martin 3-16, D Hocking 2-17); Beacon 115-1 (D Trease 57no, R Trembath 30, K Turner 20no). Beacon beat Wendron by 9 wickets
