Veryan Seconds withdraw - Club Statement

Veryan 2nd XI has passed the point of no return and, with great regret, must withdraw from Div Seven West at the halfway point of the season. The problems lie at the top and bottom of the club. Over the last three months we have lost eight members of the 1st XI: Wheildon A to New Zealand, Newland to St Stephen, Youle to Wales, Raven to St Austell; Tregunna, Smith and Howard to serious injuries in the process of healing slowly; and R Johns unavailable for all but one game due to work. We have also lost in the same period several members of the 2nd XI to gig rowing, a motor bike crash, hotel and pub work on Saturdays. The upshot is that Veryan 2nd XI, having won six of eight games played, has a handful of players available for July and August when the Cornish football season will kick in again, further depleting our resources. Our priority has to be to keep the 1st XI going, with the aid of at least five of the 2nd XI. We apologise to all the other clubs in Div Seven West for not being able to fulfil our fixtures but hope they understand our predicament. Robert Jobson, Hon Sec/2nd XI Capt, Veryan CC.
