Premier Extra games plan cancelled The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League have cancelled an attempt to play a Premier mini-league this season. The idea had been circulated to clubs in an attempt to add fixtures to the schedule, to make up for the blank days caused by the withdrawals of Menheniot and Helston this season. A proposed three match league had to be shelved when only five of the eight clubs found favour. Now a further club has declined the possibility of playing two extra games per club which makes any form of competition unviable. The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League have announced that Beacon Third XI will not be permitted to use their Clijah Croft pitch at Redruth this season. Following inspections and reports the League's Grounds Committee have deemed the pitch as unsuitable for league cricket. As a result the club have been instructed to rearrange all their Division 7 West home fixtures for the remainder of the season.

An attempt to give extra games this season to Premier League clubs, following the withdrawals of Menheniot and Helston, have had a mixed response. The League Management Committee circulated clubs with the idea of the teams having blanks on match days playing each other to form a three match mini-league. With either one or two games at home it was envisaged club match incomes could receive a boost. Five of the clubs are in favour but three clubs have declined. The clubs & League are considering whether a two match competition, could still go ahead with perhaps an opportunity to play a different type of format.

Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League Press Release Re Helston's withdrawal from the Premier League. The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League's Management Committee met on Thursday 16th June to discuss the request of Helston Cricket Club to withdraw from the ECB Cornwall Premier League, due to their playing strength available. The committee, reluctantly, accepted their request with immediate effect. For the remainder of the season the club will play two teams only. One team in Division Five West and one team in Division 7 West. The League Management will be meeting with representatives of the Premier League clubs in the immediate future to discuss the implications, both short-term and long-term, regarding promotion and relegation and number of teams in the Premier League. Following the recent withdrawals of Helston and Menheniot, in order to compensate for the number of byes during the rest of the season, the League are circulating clubs with the proposal of teams with byes playing each other in a separate mini league. All teams would play three extra games (2 home and 1 away or vice versa) with a financial prize for the winners. If agreed it would come into being over the weekend of 25th/26th June.
