Following last week's meeting at Fowey all partners agreed that recreating a Fowey Cricket Club to participate in the Cornwall Cricket League is a long term goal and something that is unlikely to be achieved in the next 2-3 years. All Fowey's players have been released from their registrations and are now free to register for any new clubs and do not need transfers.
THE Cornwall Association of Cricket Officials is running an ECB-sponsored Level One umpiring course commencing on Thursday 26 January at the Cornwall Cricket Centre. The course will provide participants with a strong knowledge of the laws of the game and give them all the tools they require to be confident and competent cricket officials. Successful candidates will be qualified to stand at CACO panel-appointed games in the highest tiers of Cornish club cricket. The course is on ten consecutive Thursdays from January 26th. Each session will take about two hours and start at 7.30 pm. The venue is Cornwall Cricket Centre, College Road, Truro, TR1 3XX. The tuition is provided free by ECB-qualified CACO tutors, however the ECB levies a £30 fee for the course materials. If you would like to register, or have any questions, please contact Simon Menneer on 07770 418042, cornwallumpires@gmail.com The LMC have revisited the proposed set up in Divisions 6 & 7 East and have decided to have a full 12 teams in 6 East thus Liskeard 3 are additionally promoted. Division 7 East will comprise of 9 teams with additional random fixtures added to make up a suitable fixture list. Fowey's continuation as a League club, playing in Division 7E, is regarded as 'highly unlikely' as at mid December 2011 but they do have a meeting on January 23 with a longer term goal of the re-development of the club. At their request Tregony, having finished bottom, wish to be relegated from Division 4 East to enable them to survive as a club. St Blazey 2 have accepted the additional promotion place from Division 5 and will replace them. With the divisions hopefully now in place the fixture lists will be drawn up over the Christmas period for distribution in January. CCL Divisions lists 2012 The AGM paperwork will be distributed early in the New Year for the meeting on Wednesday 25th January.

It is organised by Porthleven Cricket Club to commemorate their former player who sadly passed away four years ago whilst playing at the club. This year's competition was contested by teams from Porthleven CC, The Blue Anchor, The Ambulance Service and Wadebridge CC. The cricket was played in great spirit, and the final was between The Blue Anchor and Wadebridge, with the latter winning a close match. Prizes for the raffle were generously donated by Manchester United (Derek was a huge fan), the ECB, Sharp's Brewery and Tony Pryce Sports. A sum of £232 was raised which is being donated to the British Heart Foundation. Porthleven CC would like to thank all those that attended, donated prizes and supported the event. St Just won through to the televised Barbados Cockspur Club t20 Finals in the most dramatic of fashions at Normandy CC in Surrey . They required six off three balls only for Nick George (13no) to hit a massive six to win the game against local side Valley End. David Roberts was 52 not out. Earlier Neil Curnow made 66 off 46 balls in a 118 opening partnership before five wickets fell for 13 runs. A heavy shower after five overs saw St Just’s innings interrupted for ninety minutes, with the average run rates identical which would have meant a replay. Valley End had 55 on the board in six overs in their innings. Also in an innings with rain interruptions they ended on 148-7 with two wickets each for Gareth May and Nick and Mark George. Thirty came off the last three overs. The Finals Day is at Essex CCC, Chelmsford on Monday 19 September St Just v Ealing, Chester-le-Street v Hyde ECB Media Release The 2011 Barbados Cockspur Club t20 Finals day on Monday 19th September now has all four teams in place and ready for action. Chester le Street - Durham, Ealing - Middlesex, Hyde - Cheshire, St Just - Cornwall In todays Regional Finals:- Chester le Street made short work of Central Yorkshire League team New Farnley, who having been bowled out for 89 were beaten in 12 Overs. Chester le Street openers John Coxon and Simon Birtwistle added 61 for the first wicket building on the good work of the bowlers, Captain Quentin Hughes 4 - 0 - 11 - 3 and Graham Cessford 4 - 0 - 11 - 2 were major influencers in keeping New Farnley to a low total. Ealing found Peterborough Town, tough opponents at home and who, despite posting a low score, had visitors Ealing concerned at 17 - 3 which evened up the contest. Pick of the Day was the performance of the Wilkin brothers, Olly took 4-22 and Mylo, batting at No4, held the innings together with a very mature 46 not out from 41 balls. Hyde beat Kendal by 4 wickets in the Lake District. Kendal posted 110 which was not enough to keep Hyde at bay. St Just had a late scare, eventually winning by 5 wickets with 2 balls to spare, having made most of the running against Surrey Championship Division 2 side, Valley End. Rain interrupted proceedings on a number of occasions before Valley End posted a creditable 148. St Just openers took the game away from Valley End with a century partnership but limped over the line requiring 7 in the last over. ECB Under 17 County Cup 'B' Semi-Final Hertfordshire v Cornwall on Friday 19 August Heavy rain the day before delayed the start at Welwyn Garden City and reduced the game to 45 overs. Cornwall won the toss and batted, were in trouble at 19 for 4, Ben Kitt 42 and Sam Pooley 31 helped get us to 108 for 5 before 3 fell for no further score, then a ninth wicket partnership of 69 between Josh Sharpe 34 and Alex Ridd 38 saw us eventually all out for 187 in the final over. Hertfordshire got off to a flyer against the new ball and were 69 for 0 off 12 and at 98 for 1 after 19 looked home and dry. Steve Jenkin 4 for 18 and Tom Shrewsbury 2 for 32 bowled the next 18 overs in tandem leaving Herts on 149 for 7 after 37 and needing 39 more off the last 8. 26 from Kulkarni however seemed to have won the game, before a late twist saw Harry Bolland dismiss him, leaving them needing 7 from the last 8 balls, Kristian Martin batting at 10 then stroked a 2 and a 4 off the next 2 balls to see them home. Cornwall 187 all out, Kitt 42, Ridd 38, Sharpe 34, Pooley 31. Scott 3 for 41, Chalker 2 for 36 Hertfordshire 188 for 8 Rudkin 42, J Scott 41, G Scott 40, Kulkarni 26. Exmouth won the Devon competition on Sunday beating Bradninch in the final to complete the line up. The play-off final of the West Penwith Evening League final took place at Penzance CC between Penzance and Halsetown Cricket Clubs. Halsetown won the toss and invited Penzance to bat. With the loss of a wicket off the first ball, Penzance began badly, but a partnership of 67 off the first 7 overs between Johnny Whitaker and Jack Nicholas before the latter fell for 31 put the home team back on track. With the fall of Jack Nicholas, Gerens James continued in a similar vein with a quick fire 36 and Penzance eventually totalled 197 for 3 wickets off 20 overs with Penzance skipper Johnny Whitaker top scoring with an unbeaten 115. There was one wicket apiece for Nigel Moyle, Kyle Moyle and R Venning. Halsetown in reply and now in a steady drizzle, got off to a good start with R Venning 49 and Ashley Weston 68 putting on 109 for the first wicket. Nigel Moyle 42 not out and M Hughes 17 continued to smash their way to the imposing target of 197. With the ever worsening drizzle and light, the scores were tied as the last ball was bowled to Nigel Moyle. A quick run single secured a 3 wicket victory for Halsetown in a thoroughly enjoyable game of cricket with nearly 400 runs scored on the night. For Penzance, Gerens James and Jack Nicholas took two wickets apiece. League Secretary Peter George congratulated both sides on a good game of cricket in difficult conditions. He also confirmed that Halsetown and Penzance had jointly won the Evening League both ending up with one league defeat each. The trophy will therefore be shared between the clubs for 6 months each. Evening League Chairman, David Richards presented the winners trophy, and also the Arnold Eddy trophy for the runners up on thge night, Penzance. Penzance skipper Johnny Whitaker was also adjudged by umpires Peter George and Neil Harvey to be the Man of The Match for his 115 not out and one wicket.

As W T Edwards Cup winners St Just will represent the Cornwall Premier League in the Barbados Cockspur Club T20 Area Finals Day but there now appears to be doubt about the Cornish venue. It had been assumed the Cornish representative would host the day on 21 August, which is allocated to Leagues in rotation. However the ECB have reservations over travel distances involved to the far west of Cornwall. The South Wales Premier League T 20 champions are Carmarthenshire side Ammanford. Bridgwater beat Frocester to win the West of England Premier title while the Devon winners are yet to be decided. The ECB are yet to confirm the venue (as at 10/08)

Edwards Cup Final & County 20/20 Rules Clarification Following the previous postponement of this Cup, the LMC finds that it is necessary to clarify certain rules that apply in this Cup as follows: 1. each bowler will bowl no more than 4 overs irrespective of the number of overs in the innings - any reduction in overs in either innings will be decided by the appointed umpires. 2. hours of play, rule 25.5.6 - stands as written; for clarification - if a side does not bowl the required number of overs in the innings in the set time, the innings will continue until the required number has been bowled and a penalty of 6 runs per over will then be added to the batting side score for each over not completed within the set time. 3. in the event of a tie in a reduced overs match, rule 25.5.7 applies; for clarification for the Edwards Cup only, if the sides are tied on average run rate, the umpires will declare a winner based on the least number of extras; in the event of a further tie, the umpires will supervise a toss of a coin to decide the winner. 4. in the event of a tie in a 20/20 overs match, with runs and wickets being equal, the umpires will declare a winner based on the least number of extras; in the event of a further tie, the umpires will supervise a toss of a coin to decide the winner. For a variety of reasons the Finals Days for both the Hawkey & Clive Rosevear Cups have had to be postponed. Next Sunday's Clive Rosevear Finals at Roche have been put back to Sunday 24 July (with 31 July as a reserve date). This is because Roche CC have won through to Round 5 of the Persimmon National Village Cup and will be playing Welsh side Ynystawe at Roche next Sunday. The Hawkey Cup Finals, originally scheduled for the following Sunday 3 July at St Austell, have been, provisionally put back to Sunday 17 July. This is because Werrington CC have won through to Round 4 of the ECB National Club Championship and will be playing Bridgwater at home on 3 July. However, this revised date is also in danger if Werrington win as the next round is on the 17 July. It is possible that we might have to revert to the old format of seperate evening semi-finals and final if that is the case. Adrian Thomas (Competitions Secretary)

Sadly the death was announced on Monday 16 May of the Cornwall Over Fifties Cricket Team Manager Vic Voyzey at the age of 66. He collapsed suffering a cardiac arrest whilst bowling the second over of his spell in Cornwall’s Championship game against the Isle of Wight at Ryde last week, and never regained consciousness in hospital. Vic was a long serving member of the Callington club having begun his career with Werrington. He also played for various clubs in Devon. Cornwall Cricket Board Chief Executive and the Over Fifties captain Nigel Sanders has paid the following tribute “Although I have known Vic for over 40 years as a fierce and passionate adversary, he only became close when I joined the ranks of the Over 50's.
