Mount's Bay School (Penzance) Under 15 Girls Cricket team have won through to the National Finals of the Lady Taverners Under 15 Girls' Indoor Cricket Competition - for schools and clubs. The finals will be played at the Indoor School at Lord's Cricket Ground in London at the end of the month. Having won the Cornwall Group they travelled to the Dorset Cricket Centre at Hurn to play in the Southern Regional Finals along with teams representing Wiltshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Devon, Sussex and Dorset. Mount's Bay came top of a group that also comprised of Gloucestershire and Somerset. The 8-a-side games were of 5 overs with a minimum of 4 bowlers used. Thus they qualified, with Hampshire and Sussex, to compete in the round robin championship play-off. All three games were very closely contested with a winning margin of just 2 runs in each game. Mounts Bay beat Hampshire in the first game 60 runs to 58. Sussex then went on to beat Hampshire also by 2 runs. The final game was effectively a decider - Mount's Bay against Sussex. Mounts Bay held their nerve to win a thriller by 41 runs to 39. The Cornwall champions were presented with the trophy as Southern Regional Champions. The girls now travel to Lords to play, as one of the final four teams, in the National Finals on Sunday 30th April against the North, Midlands and East Regional winners. A fantastic achievement for all concerned. The winning team was Becky Brooks, Natalie Howes, Amber Grose, Lisa Williams, Kerry Stevens, Bryony Knott, Kerry Matthews and Nicole Richards.
