Following a couple of weeks of heavy rain the St Austell ground was in such a saturated state that an inspection by the umpires at 9.30am called off play for the day with very much doubt over the possibility for Thursday. Following the decision to abandon the day's play, a frantic morning of phone calls followed. The ECB eventually ruled that as the match is played under First Class Conditions then if no play was deemed possible on either day by the umpires, another suitable venue should attempted to be found. With offers of venues in Devon and Worcester having been made available the Cornish officials looked closer to home. Truro agreed to offer their facilities and a 3pm inspection by umpires Roy Palmer and Trevor Jesty of Boscawen Park gave the thumbs up. The aim is to attempt to play a full 50 over game, starting at 10.45am, if weather and conditions allow. Play was delayed at Truro due to showery rain during the morning. After an early lunch a 12.45pm inspection resulted in another look at 2pm with the intention for play to start at 3pm. Play duly got underway with a 30 over game played in warm sunshine. Worcestershire decided to bat and lost Solanki and Singh to Charlie Shreck early on. Graeme Hick and David Leatherdale added , what was to prove, a match winning 61 with runs nor easily to come by on the damp pitch. A late collapse saw Charlie Shreck take a competition record for Cornwall of 5 for 19 off 6 overs. Cornwall found it equally difficult to score and an accurate opening spell from Bichel and Sheriyar virtually sealed the game. After James Hands was run out attempting a single and Gary Thomas lbw when Neil Curnow , in frustration, drove Bichel to Leatherdale at cover Cornwall were 5 for 3 in the eighth over. Wickets continued to fall with only Steve Pope with 19 and a hard hit 27 near the end from Gavin Edwards, including two sixes, getting into double figures. Cornwall werre bowled out for 76 to lose by 49 runs in the last over. Cric Info Scorecard

On Monday 1st May, the Torpoint Cricket Club pavillion was destroyed by arsonists. The clubhouse was a 40ft portakabin that had stood for ten years. It had just been refurbished inside by club members, one of the inside walls had been replaced and the kitchen area had been ripped out and replaced with new units. The rest of the walls had been painted out and all the clubs gear had been stored inside ready for the start of the season. The fire has destroyed virtually everything the club owned. The practice net (which had been repaired over many hours in the winter months by a retired local fisherman) sightscreens, lawnmower, Club cricket bag containing all the clubs bats and pads etc, tables, chairs, scoreboard, catching frame, Kitchen utencils, boiler, crockery, boundary rope and other items too numerous to mention. The total damage is estimated at approx £10,000. As the clubhouse was not a fixed building, insurance was unavailable. The club have held emergency meetings and have vowed to carry on. We are loaning a large tent for the first few games, some gas stoves and kettles etc from the local Scout group. We will be loaning some tables and chairs from o ur main sponsors Torpoint Rowing Club, and we have loaned a kit bag from HMS Raleigh and Caradon Council have loaned us a lawnmower. We will get by in the first few games due to this local support and we thank everyone for their help so far. However all of the measures so far are temporary and we need to get back on a permanent footing, in order for the club to continue to flourish and provide a base for youngsters and adults alike to play the wonderful game of cricket. Therefore the club will need some form of clubhouse, so a replacement portakabin is our priority, followed by all the kitchen essentials, boiler, cups, plates etc, followed by tables, chairs and a lawnmower for cutting the strip. These are the main priorities and the other things will come as they did in the past, by hard work and committment from the clubs committee and members. If anyone out there can help us please contact Tony Freestone, Secretary, 3,Westlake Close Torpoint PL112BZ or EMail TFreestone@aol.com, telephone 01752-814254. The club is determined to continue to go forward and not to be beaten by vandalism and will welcome any support you people out there can give us to enable us to reach this goal. Thankyou.
Women's Spring Festival Sunday 12th May Rules & Information Umpires Urgently Required - contact Jackie Summers on 07799477762 Playing Conditions The normal laws of cricket will apply except: Matches will be eight a side and with a maximum of 12 overs per side. N.B. if teams wish to field seven or six players per side then this can be done by arrangement between captains / tournament organiser. No bowler may bowl more than 4 overs. The batting order of teams will be fixed as follows. Positions 4-8 must be occupied by the wicket keeper and those that are bowlers. This leaves positions 1-3 for those who are not bowlers, but obviously in the event of more than four bowlers being used, extra bowlers will have to occupy these positions. Deliveries that bounce more than once before reaching the batter, and are not strikeable will be deemed as no balls. There will be a 3 run penalty for wides and no balls, but no extra delivery. If in the discretion of the umpire wides / no balls are being bowled as a run saving tactic in the last over of the innings extra deliveries may be awarded. There will be 3 points for a win, 2 for a tie and 1for a loss. In the event of an overall tie there will be a count back to wickets. The Cornwall Women & Girls Trophy will once again be played for, but the main idea of the day is for fun and enjoyment for everybody, as well as the chance to meet and pit your skills against players from other sides. In the event of any disputes the decision of the tournament organiser will be final Timings The day is planned to start at 10 for 10.30 AM and finish by approximately 6.00 PM. It is anticipated that matches will take approximately 1 hour to complete. In order to fit all matches in it is important that we move quickly between overs, innings and matches. If the tournament runs behind schedule it may be necessary for the tournament organiser to amend the number of overs per match. With the co-operation of players and captains this should not be necessary. Please pay close attention to PA announcements giving details of which teams are playing.
