Under 15 Girls snatch dramatic win Cornwall Under 15 Girls pulled off a remarkable win in their ECB County Championship game with Somerset at Truro School on Saturday, after they looked to be staring defeat in the face. After a delayed start a 26 over game was played with Cornwall electing to bat and reaching 69-6. The only batsman to reach double figures was Natasha Weeks, daughter of Troon skipper Jason. She looked in no trouble making 22. Somerset got off to a poor start losing two wickets to Mellissa Rowe. A third wicket stand of 51 looked to be easing the visitors to victory with only 13 needed from 8 overs with 8 wickets left. However a great fightback saw four wickets fall with the score on 57. The last over was reached, bowled by Newquay's Hayley Stroud with 2 to win and 2 wickets left. After 4 dot balls a wicket fell on the fifth ball. Two were needed off the last ball and Somerset looked to have clinched victory with a pull shot for two only for Devon Umpire Tom Walden to call "one-short". The match was tied but Cornwall were dramatically awarded the win having lost fewer wickets. They travel to Beaminster on Saturday for the third of six Championship games when they meet Dorset. Cornwall Under 15's 69-6: Natasha Weeks 22; S Davies 2-8. Somerset Under 15's 69-9: H Shrubsole 26, L Tilley 14; Mellissa Rowe 4-15, Hannah Matthews 2-7. Match Tied - Cornwall won by losing fewer wickets.
