Bank Hol Monday Washout

All four Premier League games cancelled due to rain (along with probably the rest of the League programme)

Cornwall U 15 v Gwent at Troon CC (Wed 2nd) has been cancelled

Grampound Road will play Taunton St Andrews in the Cockspur Cup next Sunday 6th June. The Premier league game with Newquay will be rearranged.

Cockspur Cup 3rd Round -Grampound Road 177 (K Harris 89, A Pearce 40, P Davey 16; C Murphy 3-16, L Caddy 3-45, R Driver 2-39); Truro 174 (T Sharp 27, A Barber 25, J Kent 23, R Driver 22, J Bose 16, L Caddy 12; J Wills 3-24, C Hunkin 3-32, K Harris 2-16) Grampound Road beat Truro by 3 runs and are at home to Taunton St Andrews in Rd 4

Grampound Road got of to a poor start at 8-4 in the 5th over then 39-5 and 69-6 in the 16th over. Kriss Harris 89 (3 sixes, 14 fours, 109 balls) and Alex Pearce 40 (7 fours, 73 balls) rescued the innings with a partnership of 95 for the 7th wicket. Grampound Road made 177 all out. Truro got off to a flyer but then lost Ben Price (5) and Jon Kent (23), both to the bowling of Chris Hunkin in the fifth over. Tom Sharp (27) and Ryan Driver (22) looked to be taking control when they were both dismissed, within 3 balls of each other, with the score at 89. Julian Bose (16), Adam Barber (25) and Caddy (12) all got into double figures but thanks to some good catching wickets continued to fall. In a tense finish Murphy was caught by Ian Lean, off the bowling of Harris, off the third ball of the last over to give the home team victory by just 3 runs. Jonathan Wills took 3-24, Hunkin 3-32 and Harris 2-16.

Cornwall Women fund raising

The Cornwall Women's Cricket Team are holding a race night at Wendron Cricket Club on Friday 28th May at 7.30pm. The event is to raise finds for the County Women's team match programme this year and all are welcomed to attend

Goldsithney 2nds have withdrawn from Division 6 West due to being unable to raise a team. Points in games played this year are void.

Cornwall CCC Development XI announced

The Cornwall Development XI has been announced to play away to Exeter University on Wednesday 19th May. The team is Martin Pearce (capt. Grampound Road), Daniel Jarman (St Austell), Chris Martin (Helston), Robert Jose (wk St Just), Andrew Shorten (Callington), Alex Tunnadine (Menheniot), Karl Turner (Beacon), Neil Ivamy (Newquay), Mark Worden (Menheniot), Lee Caddy (Truro), Giles Lawrence (Goldsithney).

Cockspur Cup successes

Two Cornish clubs defeated Devon opposition in the second round of the National Cockspur Cup. Grampound Road had a 9 wicket win at Sidmouth who made 180-8 in their 45 overs. The 'Road' lost only 1 wicket with Martin Roberts making 116 not out as victory came with 7 overs to spare.

Meanwhile back in the County Truro had an equally emphatic win over Exeter. Exeter made 172-7. Truro skipper Tom Sharp hit a brilliant 104 to see his side home by 7 wickets with 15 overs to spare. Grampound Road will now meet Truro in the third round on a date to be confirmed

Cockspur Cup 2nd round Exeter 172-7 (A Wilkinson 47, R Ayre 31); Truro 173-3 (T Sharp 104, N Stoddard 49no). Truro beat Exeter by 7 wkts with 15 overs to spare

Sidmouth 180-8 (Nigel Gingell 58, Matt Cook 23, Dave Child 21; C Hunkin 7-0-36-1, L Sanders 7-0-27-1, J Wills 9-1-28-2, M Roberts 9-1-32-1, K Harris 9-1-36-0, M Pearce 4-0-13-1); Grampound Road 181-1 (M Roberts 116no, A Brenton 46, C Hunkin 5no; M Cook 1-18). Grampound Road beat Sidmouth by 9 wkts with 7 overs to spare and will meet Truro in Round 3 (date to be confirmed)

Roche conceded their npower Village Cup tie against Luckett.

Camborne based Heathcoats CC have withdrawn from The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League. (Div 5 West).

National win for Rosudgeon Women

Rosudgeon Women won through to the second round of the National Clubs Championship on Monday when they won by 9 wickets at Hawkesbury Upton in Gloucestershire. The home team were dismissd for 68 with Fern Nicholls enjoying a fine game with figures of 10-4-14-4 and additionally held three catches. Mellissa Rowe with 28 not out and Natasha Weeks with 22 not out secured victory. The side have another long trip in the second round when they take on one of the leading clubs in Surrey - The Redoubtables. Hawkesbury Upton Women 68 (F Nicholls 4-14). Rosudgeon Women 69-1 (M Rowe 28no, N Weeks 22 no), Rosudgeon won by 9 wickets.

 

Development XI Fixtures

Cornwall County Cricket Club's Under 21 Manager Dick Collins has arranged a programme of six 'Development XI' fixtures to replace the ECB Under 21 Championship, which has been axed by the ECB due to lack of funding. The games are: Wed 19th May Exeter University (Exeter University), Wed 9th June Cornish Crusaders (St Buryan), Tue 20th July Devon (Tavistock), Sun 25th July Dorset (Menheniot), Tues 3rd August Devon (Truro), Thur 26th August Leeds University (Newquay)
