Cockspur Cup 2nd Round Sunday 9th May

Two Cornish clubs defeated Devon opposition in the second round of the National Cockspur Cup. Grampound Road had a 9 wicket win at Sidmouth who made 180-8 in their 45 overs. The 'Road' lost only 1 wicket with Martin Roberts making 116 not out as victory came with 7 overs to spare. Meanwhile back in the County Truro had an equally emphatic win over Exeter. Exeter made 172-7. Truro skipper Tom Sharp hit a brilliant 104 to see his side home by 7 wickets with 15 overs to spare. Grampound Road will now meet Truro in the third round

Cockspur Cup 3rd Round Sunday 30th May

Grampound Road beat Truro by 3 runs and are at home to Taunton St Andrews in Rd 4 Grampound Road got of to a poor start at 8-4 in the 5th over then 39-5 and 69-6 in the 16th over. Kriss Harris 89 (3 sixes, 14 fours, 109 balls) and Alex Pearce 40 (7 fours, 73 balls) rescued the innings with a partnership of 95 for the 7th wicket. Grampound Road made 177 all out. Truro got off to a flyer but then lost Ben Price (5) and Jon Kent (23), both to the bowling of Chris Hunkin in the fifth over. Tom Sharp (27) and Ryan Driver (22) looked to be taking control when they were both dismissed, within 3 balls of each other, with the score at 89. Julian Bose (16), Adam Barber (25) and Caddy (12) all got into double figures but thanks to some good catching wickets continued to fall. In a tense finish Murphy was caught by Ian Lean, off the bowling of Harris, off the third ball of the last over to give the home team victory by just 3 runs. Jonathan Wills took 3-24, Hunkin 3-32 and Harris 2-16.

npower Village Cup Rd 5 (Group Final) Sunday 13th June

Werrington won the Cornwall Area Group Final of the npower village cup on Sunday with a four wicket win in a low scoring game at Menheniot. The hosts were short out for 89 thanks to a fine spell from Nick ward who took 5 for 17. Darren Johns supported well with 3-25. Only Lloyd Sluman with 23 and Mike Harrison with 17 made much impression. Werrington got home by 4 wickets thanks to Mark Hodgson's 38 and Ben Smeeth's 25. Sluman enjoyed a good game to take 4-27. Werrington are at home to the Devon Champions in Round 6 on 27th June.

Npower Village Cup Rd 6 Sunday 27th June

Werrington are through to the last 16 tanks to Ben Smeeth carrying his bat for 61 no and sharing stands of 55 with Mark Howell, 75 with Mark Hodgson and an unbeaten 39 with Adam Hodgson.

Werrington beat Feniton by 8 wkts with 7 overs to spare and travel to Goatacre (Wiltshire) or reigning champions Shipton-under-wychwood (Oxfordshire) in Round 7 (last 16) on July 11th

Npower Village Cup Rd 7 Sunday11th July

Werrington won through to the last eight of the npower Village Cup on Sunday following a 84 run win over former competition winners Goatacre in Wiltshire. They now face a quarter-final at Sully Centurions on the banks of the Bristol Channel in South Wales on 25th July with the winners at home in the semi-final to either Linton Park (Kent) or Findon (Sussex).

The win against Goatacre was achieved thanks to a brilliant 94 from Adam Hodgson which included 5 sixes and 8 fours. Then the Werrington bowlers produced the goods to bowl the home team out for 91 in 31 overs. Nick Ward took 3-19 and Ian Worsnip had sensational figures of 9-7-8-2. Darren Johns took 2-15 and Mark Taylor 2-16 to leave Werrington just two games from another appearance at Lord's.

Npower Village Cup Rd 7 Sunday25th July

Sully Centurions (Glamorgan & Gwent) v Werrington

Werrington are out of this year's npower National Village championship when they went down to by 87 runs to Sully Centurions in the quarter -final in South Wales on Sunday. Batting first the Sylvester brothers put on 52 for the home team before Ryan was lbw for 41. Lloyd Smith made 36 but it was Jamie Sylvester with 104 not out that laid the base of the big total of 240-5. Werrington lost Ben Smeeth in the third over for 5. After a couple of interruptions for rain Werrington Mark Horwell made 22 but after his dismissal the visitors were in trouble at 64-4. Mark Taylor made 20 but wickets continued to fall Robert Dymond was forced to retire hurt with a facial injury, Ryan Sylvester took 4-28 and Jamie Sylvester 3-15 as Werrington were dismissed for 153 off 35 overs. Sully now go forward to face a home semi-final with Findon from Sussex who defeated Kent's Linton Park by 4 wickets.

Sully Centurions 240-5 beat Werrington 153 by 87 runs.
