Divisions 2008                 Full listings click

The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League has finally been able to confirm the make-up of the divisions for the 2008 season. Two clubs, and a total of six teams, have been admitted bringing the total up to 76 clubs with 161 teams playing in 14 divisions. Delabole have rejoined after a ten-year absence and Holsworthy have also been admitted. Constantine, Launceston, Praze and Redruth have entered additional teams. The lowest western division - Division 7 West, will have a full compliment of 12 teams. The lowest eastern divisions have been revamped, having been played on a zonal basis last year. To accommodate the extra teams Division Six East will have a full twelve teams with, based on last season's final positions, the remaining nine teams forming Division 7 East. Additional games will be added to make a full fixture list in Division 7 East.

A request from the Cornwall Cricket League to increase the ECB Premier League from eight to ten teams for 2008 might have been considered favourably by the ECB. It would have seen no relegation and two up for one year only with the required criteria already being met by both additional clubs. Division 1 runners-up Camborne were keen to be promoted however relegated Hayle declined the offer to stay up as they wish to rebuild at a lower level. Outside of the ECB Cornwall Premier League, with one team from east and west being relegated from County 1, the usual two up and two down has been met in determining promotions and relegations, apart from Division 3 West and below. Only one team has been relegated in these divisions following Mawnan's withdrawal from Division 3 during the season. Goldsithney have been narrowly relegated from Division 2 West having achieved fewer away wins than Camborne seconds.

Apart from possibly County Division 1, games next year will continue not to be rearranged in the event of bad weather. The initial round of voting on rule changes resulted in only 29% of clubs voting in favour, not enough to go forward to the AGM in January.

Promotions & Relegations:

ECB Cornwall Premier - relegated Hayle, promoted St Austell.

County Division 1 - relegated Bude & St Gluvias, promoted Grampound Road 2 & Perranarworthal.

Division 2 West - relegated Crofty/Holman & Goldsithney, promoted Redruth 2 & Perranporth.

Division 3 West - relegated Truro 3 only, promoted Mullion & Barripper.

Division 4 West - relegated Rosudgeon 2 only, promoted Constantine & Helston.

Division 5 West - relegated Wendron 2 only, promoted St Gluvias 2 & Praze.

Division 6 West - relegated St Ives 3 only, promoted Goldsithney 2 & Mt Hawke & Porthtowan 2.

Division 7 West - admitted Constantine 2, Praze 2 & Redruth 4.

Division 2 East - relegated Veryan & Tideford, promoted Liskeard & St Neot.

Division 3 East - relegated Callington 2 & Gerrans, promoted Launceston 2 & St Minver.

Division 4 East - relegated Tideford 2 & St Austell 3, promoted Torpoint & Liskeard 2.

Division 5 East - relegated Callington 3 & St Neot 2, promoted Gunnislake & St Erme 2.

Division 7 East - (9 teams) St Newlyn East 2, South Petherwin 2, Ladock 2, Callington 4, Newquay 4, Tregony 2, admitted Delabole, Holsworthy & Launceston 3.

New Cricket Centre proposed

An application for planning is being submitted for proposals for a new Cricket Centre to be built adjacent to the new Lynher Building at the Truro College campus. The Cornwall Cricket Board and Truro College are delighted to announce these ambitious plans for the development of a purpose built first class indoor facility for Cornwall. Capita Symonds has been appointed as the Project Managers for this scheme, with Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole as the architects and the scheme has now reached the point where planning permission is being sought from Carrick District Council.

The purpose built iconic centre will have 5 indoor cricket lanes, changing areas, meeting rooms, state of the art video analysis equipment and an office for the Cornwall Cricket Development Manager. This provision is proposed in support of coaching and training for all cricketers and cricket clubs in the county. The building would also be used during week days as an excellent additional facility for the College's students in the very popular Sports Programme Area, including those in the College Cricket Academy.

Speaking on behalf of the Cornwall Cricket Board, Malcolm Broad said "The centre will mark a significant and exciting leap forward in Cornwall's aspiration to produce a Test player from the Duchy, within the next 10 years. It will give all local cricketers, especially our many young players, the opportunity for regular coaching in a top-class facility". The move towards planning permission marks the culmination of 5 years of hard work by the Cornwall Cricket Board, which has been supported enthusiastically by Truro College.

CORNWALL CRICKET BOARD PRESS RELEASE

"At a meeting on 19 November 2007 the Cornwall Cricket Board fully supported the decision the Appeal Committee made on 1 November 2007 regarding the matter of Bude CC. However in the light of new and substantial information the Cornwall Cricket Board has decided to meet with all the parties involved to review the position."

This website was not informed by the Board of the outcome of the appeal on 1 November but it has emerged that the following decisions were made.

In accordance with league rules Bude appealed to the Cornwall Cricket Board.

Its Appeal Committee found that "The Disciplinary Panel of the League Management Committee was correct in its decisions regarding this matter. However it disagreed with the penalties imposed. The Appeal Committee rules as follows

* That Cameron Rope be suspended from playing for Bude CC or any club in the Cornish Cricket League for the 2008 season.

* That Bude CC be reprimanded and warned regarding its future administrative procedures.

* That Bude CC be fined £400.00, including the costs of the hearing.

* That there should not be any points deduction.

The Appeal Hearing did not consider Cameron Rope made a significant overall contribution to the points gained by Bude C C .

Summary The Board upheld the League's decision and added a £400 fine including the £50 appeal costs. However there is to be no points deduction for the playing of an ineligible player. The League had deducted 27 points at their hearing.

CCL 2008 Divisions put on hold as Bude appeal

The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League's Management Committee have delayed the formation of the divisions for the 2008 season until November at least.

Bude (North Cornwall C C ) have appealed against the recent CCL decision to be deducted 27 points for playing an ineligible player.

The consequences of the eventual outcome will ultimately have widespread ramifications across the Cornwall League, with no fewer than 13 teams affected when the Divisions for 2008 are finally confirmed. If the penalties are upheld Redruth would survive in County Division One at the expense of Bude. In the west Division Three champions Redruth seconds would therefore be allowed to be promoted to Division Two and Perranporth, Barripper, Helston, Praze and Mount Hawke & Porthtowan seconds, who all finished as runners-up in their respective divisions, would also be allowed to be promoted. However Goldsithney would be additionally relegated from Division 2. In the east Tideford, Gerrans, St Austell thirds and St Neot seconds would be additionally relegated. Veryan's future is in doubt but they are trying to attract players and will meet again on 20 November to discuss their future.

Indoor League abandoned

Regretfully there will be no Indoor 6 a side League organised by the Cornwall Cricket League this winter at Fowey and Truro College. It has not been possible to find an organiser to run the eastern competition. As the competition is run on a countywide basis nationally by the ECB therefore the Western competition will also not take place.
