After being put in Hayle slipped to 57 for 5 in the 23rd over. Jason Weeks made 43 and added 49 for the sixth wicket with Chris Martin (22). Ryan Colyn then hit 25 not out to see the total to 158 for 9 in 55 overs. Alex Smeeth, with a mix of seam and spin, took four for 45 and Adrian Pooley three for 30. Hayle knew they needed to win for any chance of survival but Ben Smeeth (19) and Mark Hodgson (20) put on 46 for the first wicket. Matt Robins (29) and Adam Hodgson (32) took the total to 113 before losing their third wicket. Marlon Franklyn came back to take two for 48 to give just a glimmer of hope but Alex Smeeth's 29 not out secured victory with 15 overs to spare. In the end Newquay's creditable three wicket defeat at home to champions St Just had no great significance. Newquay were 183 all out off exactly 55 overs. Godfrey Furse top scored with 36, sharing a last wicket stand of 49 with James Harrison (19). Earlier Rob Harrison made 29, Tom Brooks 23 and Barry Purchase 20. Mark George enjoyed a great spell to take five for 27 from 16 overs and Kieran Noema-Barnett three for 41. Mark George then capped a fine game to lead the St Just reply with 76 with Gary Thomas (29), Gareth May (24no), David Roberts (21) and Gavin Edwards (21) all contributing. Dylan DeBeer took three for 24 and Rob Harrison three for 34. Truro finished with a win at home to Paul who were restricted to 176 for 9. Justin Stephens made 48 and Paul Osborne hit 33. Tom Sharp took three for 38. Truro eased home by six wickets after Neil Stoddard (55) and Chris Martin (62) added 101 for the first wicket. Dave Twigg took three for 56. Falmouth had a one wicket home win over Grampound Road who were dismissed for 160 by Dave Neville's four for 33 and Jon Udy's three for 24. Opener Mpho Sekhoto dominated the innings with 93. Adrian Noott hit 53, Stefan Churcher 26 and Rob Eccleston 20 not out adding 12 with Dave Neville (10no) for the last wicket. Lewis Sanders took five for 39. They made 339 for 6 with Falmouth 182 all out. Elsewhere Newquay are 10 points ahead of Hayle at the bottom with one game to play after their draw at Paul. Meanwhile Hayle were going down to a 110 run defeat at Grampound Road. In the other game Werrington beat Truro by 42 runs with two balls remaining. Champions elect St Just need just three points to retain their title from two games. They won by nine wickets at Werrington after chasing 208. David Roberts and Gary Thomas shared an unbroken stand of 166. Roberts hit 14 fours and 2 sixes in his 100 not out with Thomas making an unbeaten 91. Matt Robins anchored the home innings with 86 putting on 69 with Ben Smeeth (38) for the second wicket. Adam Hodgson made 24 but Kieran Noema-Barnett's five for 61 kept the home team in check. Nick George took three for 40. Paul stayed on track for second spot with a five wicket win at Grampound Road. Dave Twigg took four for 14 to bowl the 'Road' out for 130. Ryan Van Wyk made 46 as the home team recovered from 63 for 6. Paul were 13 for 3 themselves but Kelvin Snell's 58 not out took Paul to victory with 35 overs to spare. Hayle's game with Truro was abandoned after 31 overs after fog and drizzle descended on the Towans after tea. Needing an unlikely 311 to win Hayle had reached 128 for 2 in the gloom with Steve Pollard making 43 and Ryan Colyn 24. Marlon Franklyn was 33 not out when the conditions became too damp with play called off just before seven. Earlier Truro took full advantage of being put in under blue skies to post 310 for 2. After losing Jon Kent at 28 Chris Martin (89) and Tom Sharp added 166 for the second wicket over 33 overs. Sharp went on to hit 143 not out with Aaron Pennell hitting 45 not out off 34 balls. Newquay skipper Rob Harrison made a valuable 64 to gain his team a draw at Falmouth. It leaves Newquay 7 points ahead of Hayle at the bottom with two games to play. Needing 230 Barry Purchase hit 73 but he was one of three victims for David Neville as Newquay slipped to 150 for 8 before Harrison stepped in. For Falmouth Adrian Noott made 93 and Stefan Churcher 74 as they reached 149 before losing their second wicket. Neil Ivamy took three for 64. Paul (19 points) beat Grampound Road (four) by five wickets. The weather severely disrupted the programme again. Only one of the four games, at the Newquay Sports Centre, was played and that failed to reach a finish. Werrington's visit to Paul was called off in mid morning. Hayle travelled to St Just but further rain prevented a start. Likewise Falmouth visited Truro and there were hopes of a delayed start. However further rain around 2pm ended proceedings. The one game that did survive saw Grampound Road recover from a bad start at Newquay. They lost Jake Preston for 1 with only 2 on the board. Martin Roberts joined Tom Hughes and the pair put on 113 for the second wicket in 28 overs. Rain took ten overs out of the game and on the resumption Roberts was run out for 57. Hughes immediately followed caught at mid on off Dylan Debeer for 53. Chris Hunkin and Mpho Sekhoto added 41 for the fourth wicket to keep the 'Road's momentum going. Neil Ivamy got the breakthrough to have Hunkin caught in the deep for 37 before Sekhoto played on for 39. Kris Harris was undefeated on 15 at the end of their allotted fifty overs. Ivamy took two for 51. Newquay's innings saw Pete Bolland, who replaced Tim Walton, getting his side off to a good start. His partner, Godfrey Furse, fell for a single with the score at 30, caught at slip off Lewis Sanders. He also got rid of dangerman Dylan Debeer for 2. Bolland and Barry Purchase took the total to 76 before both were lbw to successive balls from Hunkin and Ryan Van Wyk. Rob Harrison and James Walton got the total to 102 when rain drove the players from the field at 7pm. The game was abandoned twenty minutes later, in gloomy light. with over 24 overs remaining. The 'Road' took thirteen points to Newquay's ten . St Just moved closer to the title with a 111run home win over Truro. Dave Roberts (37) and Neil Curnow (63) added 78 for the first wicket. Chris Phillips took three for 45 and Tom Sharp three for 59 as St Just slipped to 158-6. They reached 229-8 thanks to Mark George 29 and Nick George 38 not out. Jon Kent (29) and Chris Martin (22) added 40 but once parted wickets fell steadily. Mark George took five for 44 and Kieran Noema-Barnett three for 16 as Truro were 118 all out in the 41st over. Paul and Falmouth fought out a draw with Falmouth 40 runs short of victory but only 2 wickets remaining. Paul reached 82-1in the 28th over before Andrew Snell was dismissed for 49. Kelvin Snell made 21 and Cas James 43. From 168 -4 in the 50th over the innings fell away to 199 all out off the last ball. Dave Neville took four for 42 from 13 overs and Duncan Ayres three for 46. Falmouth reached 105 before losing their third wicket in the 32nd over with Stefan Churcher making a fine 56. Paul though restricted the run rate with Neil Pengelly taking four for 16 from 14 overs. Newquay's last pair hung on for a draw in the vital basement battle clash to take ten points to Hayle's fifteen. Hayle's 229-8, after being 1 for 2, saw Marlon Franklyn make 74 with Ryan Colyn (37no), Steve Pollard (33), Chris Martin (33) and Jason Weeks (27) all contributing. Rob Harrison took three for 37. Lello took four for 27 as Newquay looked doomed at 158 for 8 but Dylan DeBeer made a splendid 113 not out. He saw out the last four overs with last man Neil Ivamy to gain a vital draw. For the second time in a week Werrington's Matt Robins just missed out on a century. However his 94 not out gave his team a five wicket win over Grampound Road, with 11 overs to spare after being set 211. He got good support from Ben Smeeth with 30 and Adam Hodgson with 42. Chris Hunkin took three for 72. In the 'Road's 210-6 Jake Preston made 68 and Mpho Sekhoto 65. Leaders St Just powered to a 109 run win at Grampound Road. Neil Curnow (86) and David Roberts (55) opened with 129 in 32 overs. Gavin Edwards hit 30, Kieran Noema-Barnett 26, Gary Thomas 19 and Andy Birkett 18 in St Just's 292 for 6. Martin Pearce and Martin Roberts took three wickets each. The 'Road' were bowled out for 183 in the 48th over. Opener Martin Roberts made 61 with Mpho Sekhoto hitting 35 and Chris Roberts 20. Barnett took four for 47 and Graham Trenwith three for 38. There was a quick finish at Falmouth who were shot out for just 61 in 29.2 overs by Werrington. Ian Worsnip bowled unchanged to take five for 29 from 14.2 overs. Darren Johns started the rot to take three top order wickets at a cost of 17 runs from 9 overs. Tom Glover top scored with 17. After Ben Smeeth made 19, before being run out, Mark Horwell hit 22 not out as Werrington cruised home in the seventeenth over for the loss of three wickets. Paul won by seven wickets at Hayle with four overs to spare. Justin Stephens carried his bat for 88 in Paul's 193 for 3. Neil Pengelly (47) shared a third wicket stand of 102 after two wickets fell for 19. Ryan Edwards was 32 not out in an unbroken stand of 72. Truro defeated Newquay by six wickets in a game marred by an injury to Newquay's Joe Crane. He has spent a night in hospital after suffering a suspected fractured cheekbone. Rain swept across the county during mid afternoon to ruin the day's action. None of the four Premier League games saw any play after tea. St Just's home game with Paul was the first to fall victim to the weather with St Just seemingly in charge. Paul reached 22 before losing Dan Smith for 9 but a procession followed. Only Justin Stephens with 11 got into double figures as the home bowlers took control. Robert Clackworthy took five for 20 from 12.2 overs with Nick George taking one for 16 from 9 overs and Graham Trenwith one for 5 from 4 overs. Rain ended play for the day with Paul struggling on 45 for 7 in the 26th over with Neil Pengelly and Paul Osborne the undefeated batsmen. Play was uninterrupted until 3.30pm at Falmouth in which time the home team had reached 125 for 4 in 43 overs against Hayle. After losing Stefan Churcher in the second over Larry Martin led the home response with a six and 8 fours in his unbeaten 76. Wayne Jenkin took two for 24 from 10 overs including Tom Glover caught and bowled for 14. Duncan Ayres was 10 not out when the players left the field. At Grampound Road a recovery from Truro saw them reach 167 all out in the 49th over but rain prevented Truro from starting their innings. This was after they had been 99-7 before Richard Lewis hit 4 sixes in his 36. Earlier Jonathan Kent, opening, made 28, Aaron Pennell 23 and Julian Bose 27. Lewis Sanders took three for 23, Martin Roberts three for 23 and Martin Pearce three for 39. The nearest game to a result came at Werrington where Newquay looked to have escaped defeat. St Just increased their lead with a convincing eight wicket home win over Werrington. The visitors were held together by Ben Smeeth who made 65 off 123 balls, before being out just before the end. Alex Smeeth made 21. Mark George took four for 50 with two apiece for Robert Clackworthy, Graham Trenwith and Kieran Noema-Barnett. David Roberts (55) and Neil Curnow put on 100 before Roberts was caught off Ben Smeeth. Curnow went on to hit 3 sixes and 7 fours in his 64 before being dismissed with only 9 needed. Victory came with 21 overs to spare. An amazing game at Paul saw 20 wickets fall for 164 runs. Paul, having been put in, struggled to 102 off 52 overs. Cas James and Ryan Edwards both made 15. Spinner Ben Rowse took five for 15 from 14 overs. Grampound Road slumped to 15 for 5 in reply with Anthony Hosking destroying the top order to take five for 21 from 17 overs. Newquay and Falmouth played out a thriller at the Sports Centre. The game was drawn with Falmouth's last pair needing four off the last ball but only managing a single. Champions St Just had few problems in overcoming Newquay by 127 runs at Cape Road to move to the top of the table. St Just hit 210-9 in their 55 overs. After David Roberts hit 35 Gavin Edwards top scored with 47. Andy Birkett made 29 and Kieran Noema-Barnett 21. James Harrison took four for 55. Newquay were shot out for 83. Mark George took five for 16 with Dylon DeBeer making 32. Paul beat Truro by five wickets at home with 24 overs to spare to move back to third. Truro, after being put in, made solid early progress to reach 33 without loss in the 19th over with Neil Stoddard making 22. In a dramatic collapse five wickets fell for just 2 runs in 14 balls to rip the heart out of the innings. Anthony Hosking took three for 35 and Kelvin Snell three for 5 in 9 overs. Neil Pengelly ended the innings at 96 all out in 50 overs with three for 8. Andrew Snell hit six fours in his 36 as Paul reached 79-2. Chris Phillips took three late wickets but Justin Stephens' 31 not out secured victory. Werrington finally got an outright win when they beat bottom club Hayle at Ladycross by seven wickets. Due to the weather only one game, at Werrington survived. The Falmouth v Truro game was called off at 11am due to a waterlogged Trescobeas ground with both teams suffering a second successive cancellation. The Hayle v St Just game was called off after an inspection by both captains. Newquay did make the trip to Grampound Road but after waiting until 1.45pm, with conditions failing to improve sufficiently, the captains called matters to an end. The match at Ladycross between Werrington and Paul saw a delayed start with the 86 over game getting underway at 2.30pm. Werrington got off to a good start as Ben Smeeth (44) and Mark Horwell (55) added 103 in 27 overs for the first wicket. Neil Pengelly got the breakthrough to have them both caught and bowled. It was the start of a memorable spell for the slow bowler as he went on to take eight for 31 from 8.5 overs. Andrew Snell made four stumpings. Mitch Connell took the other two wickets at a cost of 48 runs. Matt Robins made 23 but the Werrington innings collapsed from 152-3 to 173 all out off the penultimate ball. After losing Connell cheaply Dan Smith (32) and Dave Twigg took the total to 50 before both were dismissed. The weather took its toll with two of the four games called off without a ball being bowled. The Newquay v Truro game was called off due the very heavy rain in the previous 24 hours in the resort. Falmouth travelled to Werrington only for rain to prevent a start. Conditions were more favourable in the west where St Just beat Grampound Road by eight wickets with 24 overs to spare. The visitors put on 68 for their first wicket before Martin Pearce went for 14. Jake Preston went on to hit 47, Chris Hunkin 33 and Mpho Sekhoto 38 to get the total to 185 for 9. Graham Trenwith, Nick and Mark George and Kieran Noema-Barnett all took two wickets. St Just lost David Roberts in the first over with Neil Curnow following for 23. However Thomas and Noema-Barnett saw St Just to victory with an unbroken third wicket stand of 134. Thomas' 81 not out included 2 sixes and 14 fours while Barnett hit 12 boundaries in his 66 not out. Paul won for the fifth successive game at home when they got the better of Hayle by 109 runs. Paul got off to a bad start losing Dan Smith and Andrew Snell to Lee Caddy before Mitch Connell was run out with the score at 23-3 in the sixth over. Justin Stephens hit six boundaries in his 33 before holing out to Franklin at square leg of Caddy for 33. From 65 for four Ryan Edwards and Kelvin Snell added 133 for the fifth wicket over 29 overs to put the home team in the driving seat. St Just won a keenly contested Penwith derby beating visiting Paul by six wickets with just 7 balls to spare. Paul got off to a poor start losing their first five wickets for 31. Andrew Snell with 40 effected a recovery aided by Kelvin Snell with 35 and 34 not out from Neil Pengelly. Kieran Noema-Barnett took 3 for 36 and Graham Trenwith 2 for 16 from 10 overs. David Roberts anchored the home reply with 62 before being fourth out at 137 after Gary Thomas made 28 and Neil Curnow 19. Noema- Barnett made 21 not out . Werrington were in impressive form with the bat at home to Grampound Road making 296-9. Matt Robins made a superb 138 hitting 2 sixes and 18 fours off 134 balls. He put on 135 for the first wicket with Mark Horwell who made 45. Alex Smeeth, ahead of his full county debut, made 30. Robins completed a fine all round game to take 4 for 25 and Alex Smeeth 2 for 31 as the 'Road' were dismissed for 178. There was drama at Falmouth who tied with Hayle at 243 runs apiece. An excellent 105 from Antony Angove and 52 from Gordon Whorlow on his debut was the basis of Falmouth's 243-7. Truro (19 points) beat Newquay (seven) by 32 runs Champions St Just went down to a surprise six wicket defeat at Newquay. The visitors started well with David Roberts (35) and newcomer Chris Jelley (33) adding 55 before Neil Ivamy struck also getting rid of Gavin Edwards and Gareth May to end with 4 for 28. Mark George's 21 got the total to 145 all out. Joe Crane made 48 and South African Dylon DeBeer(23) but at 88-4 the game was balanced before an unbeaten stand saw 15 year old James Walton (12no) and Rob Harrison with 44 not out steer their side home. Harrison's second six sealed the win with 6 balls to spare. In their first ever Premier game Paul got off to a winning start at home to Grampound Road. On electing to bat Paul got over the early losses of Dan Smith and Ryan Edwards to Chris Hunkin as Andrew Snell (42) and Justin Stephens added 75 for the third wicket. Stephens, on his debut, eventually went for 75. The innings was given a late boost as Kelvin Snell (42) and Neil Pengelly (44) added a 75 for the 6th wicket over the last 10 overs as the innings ended on 242-7 in 50 overs. Grampound Road's reply got off to a sensational start as Martin Roberts and newcomer Ryan Van Wyk were bowled in successive balls in the first over from Kelvin Snell. Kriss Haris fell in Snell's next over . Chris Hunkin made a fighting 102 not out but Paul ran out 83 run winners. Snell took 3-10. Werrington got off to a good start at Hayle winning by seven wickets after being set 207. Matt Robins made 89 before Adam Hodgson continued his good early season form with 54 not out. Earlier Wayne Jenkin top scored with 40 with Ryan Colyn making 33 and Paul Lello 32. Ben Smeeth took 3 for 33. Falmouth won by 19 runs at Truro after making 209. Larry Martin (55) and Stefan Churcher (43) added 117 for the first wicket before Adrian Noott hit 22 and georgePopperwell 19. Tom Sharp, Andrew Fairman and Richard Lewis each took 2 wickets. Tom Sharp made 63 and Julian Bose 55 but the home team were always struggling after being reduced to 128-7.
