The Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League's Management Committee have decided that Truro Seconds will transfer from Division 2 West to Division 2 East for the 2004 season. The move was necessitated by two Western teams (Rosudgeon & Perranarworthal) being relegated from County Division 1 this year thus needing a rearrangement, on a geographical basis, of Division 2 as the League Rules determine.
The LMC have also decided that Torpoint's failure to compete in the Division 5 County Final, opting instead to go on a club tour, will result in them not being promoted. In addition they are fined. League Clubs introduced the new rule following similar occurrences a couple of years ago. As a result Tregony will not be relegated from Division 4 East.
The League have delayed finalising the make-up of the divisions for 2004 until the participation of some teams have been confirmed. The withdrawals of St Newlyn East and Mylor from Divison 3 East and West respectively this year already means that only one team from Division 3 down are due to be relegated.
A new initiative this summer, which saw the setting up of 10 five day cricket summer camps at cricket clubs across the county from Bude and Callington in the North and East to Falmouth and St Just in the South & West. proved a successful venture which is set to be repeated next year. A total of 287 children took part across the county of which 123 were not affiliated to clubs at the time.
An Institute of Groundsmanship Course being held a Redruth Cricket Club on Saturday has been filled with 24 people as have two Level 1 Coaching courses in the Autumn at Fowey and St Just respectively. A new Level 1 course at Truro in the new year is planned. Full details of various courses for qualified coaches appear on the Cornwall Cricket website at www.cornwall-cricket.org.uk

Cornish Cricket Clubs Knock ClubMark for Six Truro Cricket Club and Grampound Road Cricket Club became the first cricket clubs to achieve ClubMark status, a joint England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Sport England initiative. ClubMark urges clubs to offer a safe, effective and child-friendly programme for their junior members and encourages them to introduce Minimum Quality Standards in areas such as First Aid, Child Protection, Coaching and Management. Truro Cricket Club, former Premier League champions, and Grampound Road another Premier League club, have led the way in Cornwall and become the first clubs to be recognised as safe, effective, child friendly clubs. 28 of Cornwall's Focus Clubs have registered for the Club Accreditation Scheme and Truro and Grampound Rd are the first to be signed off and accredited. Ed Leverton, ECB's Club Development Manager, explains, " In order to get more youngsters playing a better quality of club cricket, Focus Clubs are being identified by County Boards all over the country and they will be the ECB's priority in club cricket in years to come." Tim Marrion, the Cricket Development Officer for Cornwall said, "It is great for cricket in Cornwall to have our first accredited clubs. These clubs are leading the way in club development and play a key part in the future of cricket in Cornwall. Hopefully these will be the first of many clubs to achieve ClubMark status and be accredited. This only highlights how important the issues of child protection, safety and quality coaching sessions are and it's good to see that these two clubs are recognised for their good practice in these fields." If any other cricket clubs in Cornwall wish to register and work towards becoming accredited then please contact, Tim Marrion, Cricket Development Officer Tel: 01872 324387 Mobile: 07785 722251 E-mail: tim.marrion@ecb.co.uk

A handful of rearranged games were played on Saturday (6 Sept) in the Jolly's Drinks Cornwall Cricket League. Veryan took runners up spot and are promoted from Division 3 East following their seven wicket win at Werrington Seconds. Saltash avoided the drop from Division 4 East when they won their basement battle with Tregony by 8 wickets. Meanwhile in the Western section there was a significant event at Long Rock in Division 3 West where Praze batsman Ian Goldsworthy created a new League record of 1585 runs in a season. He hit 115 not out to surpass the previous record of Asif Mohammed (St Gluvias) by 12 runs. With Mylor having withdrawn from the division during the season he achieved the feat by playing only 19 League games in which he hit seven centuries.
