UMPIRES ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ARCHIVES 2001 AGM 2002 AGM 2003 AGM 2004 AGM 2005 AGM UMPIRES ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2001 held at Truro Cricket Club on 4th October 2001 The need to recruit more umpires was the message at the Cornwall's Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association Annual Meeting . Appointments Secretary Reg Osborne reported that the Association only had 33 active umpires for the most-part of last season which was not enough to cover the top three divisions in the County, even before any unavailibilities due to holidays etc. In a new venture abridged courses, possibly over a weekend, will be run this winter in a bid to fast-track umpires into the association with an adequate basic knowledge of the laws etc.. There will also be the option available of taking the full 10 evenings training course. In his report Chairman Jan Vatcha remarked that the season had been marred by some problems with dissent that, sadly, continues to be made towards umpires. He was however encouraged that the association was moving forward and seemed to be gaining an increased credibility within cricket in the County. It had been an extremely busy year with the introduction of the new laws and the Premier League. In his President's Report John Ford thanked the efforts of Jan Vatcha and also praised Reg Osborne for the way he handled the appointments job and David Davis for editing the Association's newsletters as well as carrying out the Treasurer's duties most efficiently. The Vice-chairman David Rowe stood down due to having moved away with his work. Reg Osborne took on the post though he will continue to be the Appointments Secretary. John Middleton will assist him . Middleton Full meetings will contnue at Truro C C on the first Wecnesday of December, February, April, June, August with Committee meetings at Holmans Sports Club on the alternate months At the Annual General Meeting of the Cornwall Cricket Umpires & Scorers the Association President John Ford was pleased to announce that no reports for player indiscipline had been submitted by members during the year. He remarked that occasionally, when needed, umpires had dealt with potential problems in a quiet and efficient manner and he congratulated them in carrying out their duties well during the season. He also paid particular tributes to the training officers David Davis, Jim Stevens and John Middleton and to appointments secretary Reg Osborne for their efforts. The shortage of umpires during the year meant that on average only a couple of games in each of the second divisions could be covered each week. The training course, which had recently commenced, had attracted eleven trainees. The officers were all re-appointed with Dave Gascoigne and Vic Hassall elected to the committee replacing long serving members Ben Willey and Perkins Matthews. At the 2003 Annual General Meeting of the Cornwall Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association Mr John Ford stood down as secretary, following 25 years in the post. Mr Ford, whose umpiring achievements included a spell on the Minor Counties panel in addition to being a well known face on the local circuit for a number of years, continues as Association President with David Davis taking on the secretarial role in addition to being Treasurer. Mr Ford paid particular tributes to the training officers David Davis, Jim Stevens and John Middleton and to appointments secretary Reg Osborne for their efforts during the year. The shortage of umpires during the year meant that on average only a couple of games in each of the second divisions could be covered each week. The meeting was also addressed by Mr Tom Waldoff, the Association of Cricket Umpires & Scorers South -West Regional Councillor who encouraged members to become ACU & S qualified in order to be eligible for representative games. Bert Bennett elected Chairman . Reg Osborne reverts to vice-chairman having been acting chairman following the untimely death of Jam Vatcha at the turn of the year. Dave Davis takes over from Reg Osborne as appointments secretary with Ron Fenton becoming the new Treasurer in place of Dave Davis. Dr David Hawker becomes a new committee member. Vic Hassall replaces John Ford as CCL rep.
The Secretary of the Cornwall Cricket Umpires & Scorers Association, David Davis, stood down from his post at the recent Annual Meeting. Cornwall's only Minor County cricket umpire is about to retire to Spain. He was recently presented with a 15-year service Award by the CCUA. President, Mr John Ford thanked him for his service and contributions to the Association. He had held number of positions of Office, including Secretary, Appointments Secretary, Training Instructor and CCL representative, as well as being actively involved within the South West regional branch of ACUS. Conway Polkinghorne, after many years of dedicated commitment, and David Gascoigne stood down as committee members, as did Jim Stevens from his role of Examinations Officer. The giving of their time and work for the CCUA was much appreciated. Richard Walker, a CCUA panel umpire during the mid-eighties before his job took him upcountry, has now returned to Cornwall and taken on the post of Secretary. Ron Fenton accepted the dual role of Treasurer and Appointments Secretary whilst Roy Strout and Malcolm Roberts join the committee as new members.
