Welcome to Issue 4/2 of the CCUA newsletter. Dates of the full meetings to be held during 2002 are again the first Wednesday of alternate months, to be held at Truro Cricket Club at 7.30 p.m. The dates of these forthcoming meetings are February 6th April 3rd June 5th August 7th October 2nd [AGM]
Personal Details A reminder that I will be passing the list of names and addresses for inclusion in the League handbook for the 2002 season to Mike Weeks during February. Please let me have any changes of address, telephone numbers, mobile telephones, etc. The handbook will again distinguish between "active umpires" and other CCUA members (i.e. "resting" umpires and scorers) Enclosed with this newsletter is an availability sheet for the forthcoming season, from Reg Osborne. Please complete this form and return it to Reg by return of post ; fixtures for 2002 are now available, so umpire appointments can start to be worked on as soon as we know your availability.
Qualifications May I remind you that subscriptions are now overdue, and are still at a minimal £5 per year. This subscription covers not just your membership fee, but also insurance cover whilst travelling to and from an appointment, as well as while officiating at an appointed fixture.
News Congratulations to Jan Vatcha, who was elected chairman of the Cornwall Cricket League at their AGM last night. The AGM has also reached its decision regarding the Premier League for the 2002 season - each Premier League team will play the others on three occasions. This means that each premier league team will play 27 fixtures, and that the Premier League Cup competition, which was a bit of a farce last season, has been discontinued. Other items of note from the AGM are :- · Bowlers in divisions 1 and below can only bowl 25% of the available overs (12 in a 48 over game). · Overseas professionals will still be banned in the 2003 season. · All Premier League matches will start at 1pm. · The over rate in the Premier League has been reduced to 17 per hour. · Ground marking cards have been discontinued - in the 2002 season umpires will be required to enter their marks on the official result sheet. The February Meeting ….. …. will be attended by Tom Waldock, who is the South-West Regional Councillor for the ACU&S. He will be attending as a spectator, but I am sure that he could be persuaded to give us a brief chat on the benefits (or otherwise!) of membership of the ACU&S. It is hoped that we can arrange a viewing of the training video, issued following the rewrite of the Laws in 2000. This video explains the major changes in the Law, and should serve as a timely reminder for the forthcoming season.
