Women's South West Counties Championship at Redlands, Weymouth on Sunday 31st August

South West Counties Women's Championship Cornwall Women lost their first competitive match in two years when they were defeated at Weymouth by Dorset on Sunday by 148 runs. Dorset having beaten Devon won the Championship for the first time.

Dorset 228-7 (Lisa van Zyl 106, Kate Chant 56; A Jewell 3-40),

Cornwall 80 (Claire Williamson 22, Lisa van Zyl 3-2, Kate Lewin 3-17).

Dorset beat Cornwall by 148 runs and win the Championship.

 

Women's South West Counties Championship at Braunton CC on Sunday 10th August

Devon 172-3 (Jody Mills 62 no, Jane White 30; Karen Shepley 2-30),

Cornwall 173-7 (Sue Leathley 61, Viv Searle 32, Natasha Weeks 21 no; Kathy Griffin 2-23, Jody Mills 2-33).

Cornwall beat Devon by 3 wkts with 4 balls to spare.

Cornwall Women won their opening South West Counties Championship fixture with Devon at Braunton. Devon's Jody Mills (62 no) and Jane White (30) added 89 for the second wicket as the home team reached 172-3 in their 50 overs. Cornwall's openers Sue Leathley (61) and Viv Searle (32) put on 73. Off the last 5 overs 29 were needed with 6 wickets left. Six were needed off the last over but young Natasha Weeks, on her debut, hit a four and a two of the first two balls to clinch a 3 wicket win.

 

 

The Cornwall Women's team beat Devon at Falmouth on Sunday 22nd June to claim the Tamar Shield. Cornish Crusaders President Michael Williams made the presentation to Cornwall skipper Rachael Eustice.

Thundery showers throughout the afternoon interrupted play but a 37 over per side game was completed shortly before 9pm. Cornwall's 165-3 was based on 102 for the first wicket between Viv Searle (Rosudgeon) who made 42 and Sue Leathley (Falmouth) who was unbeaten on 62.

Devon looked well placed with openers Lesley Smith making 43 and Michelle Stone hitting 40 as the pair put on 78 in 22 overs. With 39 needed off the last 7 overs the Devon batting collapsed as they lost their last 7 wickets for 22 runs. Their cause was not helped with 5 run outs. Cornwall's South West Counties Championship campaign starts on Sunday 10th August when they travel to Braunton to play Devon.

Cornwall 165-3: Sue Leathley 62 no, Viv Searle 42, Karen Shepley 15 no; Bev Moore 2-23.

Devon 149: Lesley Smith 43, Michelle Stone 40, Victoria Boomer 22; Adele Jewell 2-30.

Cornwall beat Devon by 16 runs.
