Cornwall Women v Devon Women

at Truro C C on Sunday 25th August 2001

In a 40-over match at Truro CC on Sunday, the Cornwall Women's team repeated the 2000 victory against Devon by 5 wickets. Devon batted first and were bowled out for 125 in 38.4 overs thanks to a penetrating spell of bowling from Dee Jones of Rosudgeon CC who finished with figures of 6 overs - 3 maidens - four wickets for just 9 runs. The spell included a splendid hat trick. Debbie Mitchell of Mount Ambrose CC supported with two wickets for 30. Cornwall's bowling and fielding was effective throughout the innings and ably lead by Adele Jewell from Rosudgeon, standing-in for injured skipper Rachael Eustace.

Cornwall's reply was lead by a solid performance of 37 not out from Viv Searle of Rosudgoen CC and a hard hitting 36 from Sarah Thomas of Mount Ambrose CC. Devon's total was passed in the 33rd over in front of a fair number of supporters. Dee Jones received the match ball for her hat trick. The shield was presented to the winning captain by Peter Grant, (Cornwall's Cricket Development Officer), who thanked all concerned for an entertaining game of cricket in this development year for Women's County Cricket.

Devon Women 125 lost to Cornwall Women 126-5 by 5 wickets
