Dorset v Cornwall at Beaminster on Sat 31 May Cornwall v Devon at Menheniot on Sunday 4th May Cornwall Under 15 Girls won there second ECB County Championship game of the season when they defeated Dorset at Beaminster by 51 runs. Star of the Cornish batting was Troon's Mellissa Rowe who hit four boundaries in her 54. Newquay's Hayley Stroud made 15. Cornwall recovered well from 43-6. Dorset were dismissed for 81 with Tideford's Lauren Horner taking 3-10 off 6 overs while Rowe completed a fine game taking 2 for 9 off 7 overs. The next game is at Killerton near Exeter on 28th June against Devon. Cornwall Under 15 Girls 132: Mellissa Rowe 54, Hayley Stroud 15; T House 3-25. Under 15 Girls snatch dramatic win Cornwall Under 15 Girls pulled off a remarkable win in their ECB County Championship game with Somerset at Truro School on Saturday, after they looked to be staring defeat in the face. After a delayed start a 26 over game was played with Cornwall electing to bat and reaching 69-6. The only batsman to reach double figures was Natasha Weeks, daughter of Troon skipper Jason. She looked in no trouble making 22. Somerset got off to a poor start losing two wickets to Mellissa Rowe. A third wicket stand of 51 looked to be easing the visitors to victory with only 13 needed from 8 overs with 8 wickets left. However a great fightback saw four wickets fall with the score on 57. The last over was reached, bowled by Newquay's Hayley Stroud with 2 to win and 2 wickets left. After 4 dot balls a wicket fell on the fifth ball. Two were needed off the last ball and Somerset looked to have clinched victory with a pull shot for two only for Devon Umpire Tom Walden to call "one-short". The match was tied but Cornwall were dramatically awarded the win having lost fewer wickets. They travel to Beaminster on Saturday for the third of six Championship games when they meet Dorset. Somerset v Cornwall Cornwall travelled to Bruton, Nr Wincanton in Somerset on Saturday for their penultimate league match of the season. With Cornwall having beaten Somerset when they came to Truro, Somerset brought out their top players on Saturday. The Somerset side included players who are part of the England Under 19 development squad. Cornwall batted first and faced some formidable bowling, with Natasha Weeks of Troon once again providing most resistance despite having to retire hurt at one stage, after a few overs break, she was able to resume her innings to finish on 30 not out - having faced 32 overs. Somerset bowling S Davies 7-5-5-0. L Tilley 7-4-7-3, H Williams 7-1-11-2. Cornwall finished on 78 for 7. Devon v Cornwall On Saturday Cornwall Under 15 girls cricket team travelled to the picturesque setting of Killerton House, Devon to play the latest in their South West League matches. Devon chose to bat and Cornwall took to the field on what was to be a very hot afternoon. The Devon openers started well and put on 32 before the loss of the first wicket. Cornwall struggled in the field on an undulating pitch in the hot conditions. At the end of the first innings Devon finished on 146 for 6. Beth Allin 43, Heather Knight 24, Gemma Norman 23. Cornwalls bowlers Hannah Matthews 7-0-29-3, Melissa Rowe 7-0-19-1, Hannah Grice 6-0-21-1 with Hannah Grice also taking a run out. Cornwall lost early wickets, with only Natasha Weeks showing serious resistance batting for 29 overs. Cornwall finished 30 runs short on 116 all out with 2 balls remaining. N Weeks 28, C Barber 11. Cornwall v Dorset Sunday saw the under 15s play their final game against Dorset, hosted by Callington Cricket Club. Dorset fielded a young side which Cornwall took full advantage of. Dorset batted first and were in trouble almost immediately, Cornwall were positive after their defeat on the previous day and the bowlers went about demolishing the Dorset batting line up. Dorset were all out for 33. Cornwall bowlers J Pierce (Truro) 5-2-5-4, M Rowe (Troon) 5-2-4-1. H Stroud (Newquay) 4.2-2-3-2, H Grice (Newquay) 5-3-7-1.
