David Barter is pleased to accept the role of Chairman of the Cornwall Youth Cricket League (Summer 2007). He is Chair of the youth section of his local club, Liskeard, a qualified coach, and an occasional player with two boys who both play at junior level. After a very good start the momentum in the youth league seems to be slackening and David sees his first challenge as refocusing the league and making it more relevant to the needs of clubs, districts and county cricket. The ECB see youth development as a key area of development and a proportion of Cornwall's cricket funding depends on progress in the youth development area. David will also have a seat on the Cornwall Cricket Board and hopes to contribute to the overall development of cricket in Cornwall. Other sports are constantly encroaching on the summer time traditionally used for cricket and David will work hard to increase participation at all ages and levels of ability.

Steve Barrett is currently a coach and manager of Liskeard Cricket Clubs under 13 squad and is also their Club Development Officer. Steve is also involved in the Tamar District Management and currently organises the districts winter indoor league as well as coaching and managing the districts under 11 squad. He is looking forward to his new position as Honorary Secretary and hopes to bring some new ideas and enthusiasm to the CYCL committee and to youth cricket in Cornwall.

Cornwall Youth Cricket League

The administration of Youth Club Cricket in Cornwall saw a major change with the formation of a single body to administer the game countywide with competition being organised and played in the various districts. The West Cornwall and East Cornwall Youth Cricket Leagues have both, respectively, been formally dissolved during the autumn of 2001. Competition will in future be administered by a countywide executive committee but played on a district basis. For the 2004 season the six districts in Cornwall were replaced by a four district set up.

MCC SPIRIT OF CRICKET UNDER 13 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP COUNTY CUP FINAL

The MCC U13 Club Championship County Cup Final was held tonight (Tuesday 8th July 08) at Grampound Road Cricket Club between Penzance CC and Grampound Road CC which Penzance CC won by 8 wickets.   Grampound Road batted first and after some tight bowling and excellent fielding display from Penzance, Grampound Road were bowled out for 75 after 18 overs. Some excellent bowling from Penzance captain T. Gendall, 3 - 11, earned him a match ball for the best bowling figures.     Grampound Road knew that they would have to bowl and field well to deny Penzance the win and despite taking their first wicket within the first 3 overs, Penzance got off to a flying start.   By the ninth over Penzance, having lost another wicket, were behind the required run rate but within the next 4 overs accelerated quickly to win the match. Penzance batsman, Reece Brownfield 26 n/o, won the other match ball for the best batting display.   Penzance will now go through to the Regional Stages of the national championships and will represent Cornwall in a Regional Preliminary Round against the Wiltshire finalists Chippenham CC at Werrington Cricket Club on Sunday 13th July at 2pm.
